Frazer Girls Beat Nashua, Lose to North Country, Boys Lose Both

The Frazer girls basketball team defeated Nashua 54-22 Jan. 21 at home but fell 83-23 in Hinsdale to the North Country Mavericks Jan. 24. The boys team lost 73-51 to the Porcupines and 87-57 to the Mavericks.

Girls

Frazer took a 10-point lead in the first quarter against Nashua, 14-4, and improved to a 29-6 lead at the half. They outscored Nashua 14-10 in the third and 11-6 in the fourth quarter for the 54-22 win.

Audrey Smoker led all scorers with 17 while BriAnna Beston added 14 points for Frazer. Baily Beston scored 9 followed by Aubrey Mail with 5, Elli Mail and Lola Romero both with 3, Isabelle Fourstar with 2 and Nolani Sibley with 1 point.

The Bearcubs fell behind quickly against North Country as the Mavericks ran up a 33-2 lead in the first. Frazer trailed 57-7 at the half and was outscored 22-4 in the third. The Bearcubs rallied with a 12-4 run in the fourth but lost 83-23.

Baily Beston led Frazer with 10 points. Smoker, A. Mail and Fourstar all scored 3 as E. Mail and BriAnna Beston added 2 points both.

Boys

Frazer trailed Nashua 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and was outscored 15-6 in the second. The Bearcubs were behind 58-34 heading into the final 8 minutes where they outpaced Nashua 17-15 for the 73-51 loss.

Jarvis GoodBird led the Bearcubs with 17 while Gabriel Beston hit for 14 points. Bryce Fourstar added 8 as Zayden Hentges scored 5. Cassius Smoker added 4 and Ronald Roundface 3 points.

The Bearcubs held closer with North Country in the first quarter, trailing 18-12 heading into the second. The Mavericks pulled away with a 25-13 run and outpaced Frazer 28-8 in the third for a 71-33 lead going into the fourth. Frazer scored 4 to North Country's 16 in the final 8 minutes for the 87-37 loss.

Beston led the Bearcubs with 18 followed by Hentges with 7 points. Smoker and GoodBird both scored 5 while Fourstar hit a two-pointer.

Frazer is scheduled to host Brockton Saturday, Feb. 1, for Red Night with games at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
