Polar Putt Putt Gets People Out During Polar Weather

The Glasgow Downtown Association (GDA) hosted their sixth annual Polar Putt Putt on Jan. 18, where a total of 42 teams made their way through 14 downtown businesses to play a round of mini golf on courses designed and built by the participating businesses. With an entry fee per two-person team, a total of 70 percent in cash prizes were given back to the top three team placers.

Attendance was up compared to last year's event where only 39 teams came out, which is surprising as the weather for this year's event was certainly frigid with negative high temperatures and negative windchills.

By the end of the afternoon, there was a tie for first place with a score of 42 between Gold Team Rules, comprised of Benjamin Stoinski and Arron O'Harra, and The Yeti's, comprised of Blaine Myrick and Alec Boland. Both teams split the first and second prize money, each taking home $378.

The third place team Foreplay, comprised of Ashton Hentges and Rance Rhoads, ended with a score of 43 and took home $126.

They weren't the only winners of the day, as Best Overall Score was awarded to Blaine Myrick, Second to Last was awarded to team VGIVC aka NGFTG, comprised of Kim Hunter and Tana Tweten, and the Hole In One went to the team Scoregasims.

The businesses also vied for prizes, with Alley's Palace being crowned "Player's Choice" for the best course, taking home a $50 Soma dis Deli gift card. The Player's Choice award was chosen by the participants for the business' ingenuity in building a fun yet challenging mini golf course.

The best dressed was awarded to team Uncle Milts with their Dr. Evil and Mini Me costumes.

Chair of the GDA Madelyn House expressed how this event could not happen without all of the businesses who took the time and labor to make this event happen. The participating business included Elks Lodge, Shippwrecked, D&G Sports & Western, Montana Bar, Alley's Palace, United Insurance and Realty, Glasgow Combat Sports, Blend 10, Busted Knuckle, Robyn's Nest, Elle Boutique, Glasgow City-County Library, Thistle and Thread as well as the Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery.

Up next for the Glasgow Downtown Association is planning for the summer. Alive At Five events will start in June and go through September. These events are once a month featuring live music, food and the chance to enjoy the summer weather.
