Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Jan. 24, 2025
The roads have been slick enough this week, and the stormy winds today keep us very aware winter is with us. Temperatures were -25 F on Sunday and people still made it to church at the EMB. “It was warm inside,” stated Pastor Wayne. The MB Church not only had Sunday services, but also went in to Glasgow to do a service at Prairie Ridge. It is 12 degrees, but windy and snowing today, Friday evening.
Monday was a historical and momentous day in our country, as we watched the inauguration of our President Donald Trump into office, and heard his tremendous address to the nation. “National unity is now returning to America, and confidence and pride is soaring like never before. In everything we do, my administration will be inspired by a strong pursuit of excellence and unrelenting success. We will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God. Can’t do that…. It’s all about common sense.” It was good to hear patriotic band numbers played by our military bands.
The Lustre Grade School board members are Chairman Brant Unrau, Bob Schiller and Dawson Olfert. They hosted an appreciation dinner for their staff on Jan. 23 at Fort Peck.
We failed to report on the Lustre vs Circle game here on Jan. 11. The gym was packed with fans for both sides. The band was student lead by Andy Ponce-Curl. Lustre started ahead 7-4, but Circle closed the distance by halftime at 16-15. Third quarter Circle kept within three, except for one time at 34-27 with a three that pulled us ahead. The quarter ended at 34-31, as Circle did not turn over balls easily. With 32 seconds left, it was 48-49, with Circle pulling ahead. The final score was Lustre 48, Circle 51.
On Monday, Jan. 27, the following students have been chosen to attend the Honors Band and Choir in Glasgow. Choir: Rachel Pew and Katie Calderon. Band: Nathan Fast, Andy Ponce-Curl, Lauren Fast, Hannah Brown, Abby Olfert.
Next Friday after lunch, the fourth through eighth graders will participate in Lustre Grade School’s 2024-25 Spelling Bee. Parents are welcome to attend and listen, encouraging their students quietly.
We’d like to acknowledge the passing of Stanley Sonsteng, son of Arnold and Laura Saubak Sonsteng. He grew up on Academy Road and attended the Center Bell School and went to high school in Glasgow. Stan passed away of pneumonia on Jan. 8, 2025, and his funeral was Jan 18 at the Glasgow Evangelical Church. Condolences can be left for the family at bellmortuarymontana.com.
