The Scottie boys basketball team overcame a 12-point first quarter deficit to defeat the Poplar Indians 45-44 Jan. 17 in Glasgow. They now hold a 7-2 overall record. Glasgow's JV team also won while the C team dropped their game by a single point.
Glasgow fell behind in the first quarter as Poplar came out hot with their outside game, leaving the Scotties with a 21-9 deficit after 8 minutes. The Scotties came together in the second quarter and put up 14 points while holding the visitors to 8 to trail 29-23 heading into the second half. Glasgow outpaced Poplar 12-4 in the third quarter and staved off an 11-10 Indians run in the fourth for the 1-point 45-44 win.
Wyatt Babb led the Scotties with 18 points and four assists. He also grabbed nine rebounds, five offensive, and had a steal in the game before fouling out. Cade Hudyma hit 17 pionts. He also pulled down nine rebounds, two offensive, with two steals. Grady Nielsen connected for 10 points and earned the double-double with 10 rebounds, four offensive. He had three assists as well for the Scotties.
Connor Hudyma and Myles Yoakam each added an assist to the stats sheet. Yoakam also had a steal.
Glasgow's JV team won their game 68-44 after taking a 12-6 lead in the first. They outpaced Poplar 21-10 in the second and led 48-35 heading into the final quarter. The Scotties scored another 20 in the fourth while holding Poplar to 9 points.
Gage Waarvik led the squad with 22 points. Jackson Abern followed with 18 and Trey Graham with 13 points. Cash Stulc scored 7, Wyatt Sugg 4, Gage Larsen and Davis Tolzien 2 points each.
The C squad lead 18-13 at the end of the first and held on to a 2-point lead at the half, 30-28. Poplar took the lead in the third with a 12-9 run and starved off Glasgow's 10-9 run the final 8 minutes.
Luke Tatafu led the Scotties with 16 while Hank Hopstad had 15 points. Larsen scored 6, Gavin Redstone 5, Owen Hopstad 3, Leo Bakeberg 2 and Aeden Weber 1 point.
This week Glasgow hosts the Harlem Wildcats Thursday, Jan. 23, with games beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Scotties will be in Sidney to play the Eagles Friday, Jan. 24, beginning at 3 p.m. and take on the Warriors in Fairview Saturday, Jan. 25, starting at 1 p.m.
