Nashua’s boys basketball team fell 82-16 to an undefeated Scobey team Jan. 17 and lost 60-26 to North Country the following night. The Porcupine girls fell 65-11 to Scobey and 60-16 to North Country. The girls hold a 1-5, 2-8 overall record while the boys are 1-5, 1-9 overall.
Boys
Nashua fell behind early to the Spartans, trailing 28-3 at the end of the first. Scobey went on a 21-3 run in the second to lead the Porcupines 49-6 at the half. The Porcupines scored 8 in the third as the Spartans added 12 points. Nashua lost the game 82-16 as Scobey held them to 2 in the final 8 minutes as the Spartans scored another 21 points.
Noah Leckie led Nashua with 8 points. Charlie Kaasa and Bubba Pugh each scored 3 while Miachel Hendry added 2 points.
Nashua held tighter with North Country the following night in the fist quarter with a 9-6 Porcupines deficit after 8 minutes. The Mavericks went on a 15-2 run in the second to lead Nashua 24-8 heading into the third quarter where the Porcupines scored 7 to the Mavericks’ 19 points. Nashua was outscored 17-11 in the fourth for the 60-26 loss.
Leckie put up 11 for the Porcupines followed by Pugh with 9 points. Zander Schulte added 3, Kaasa 2 and Hendry 1 point.
Girls
The Nashua girls trailed a hot Scobey team 28-4 at the end of one and 43-10 at the half. Nashua scored a free throw in the third and was shut out in the fourth as Scobey added 15 and 7 points in the same quarters.
Gracyn Sibley led the Porcupines with 5 points. Katey Dykstra connected for 4 and Monana Clampitt scored 2 points.
Nashua played the undefeated Mavericks at home the following night and found themselves down by 20 in the first 8 minutes, 22-2. North Country outscored the Porcupines 14-7 in the second and 15-5 in the third quarter for a 51-14 lead heading into the final 8 minutes. Sibley hit two free throws while the Mavericks scored another 9 points for the 60-16 win over Nashua.
Sibley connected for 10 while Dyllan Bergstrom, Dykstra and Courtney Tolzien each added a bucket.
Nashua was in Frazer Jan. 21 but scores were unavailable at press time.
The Porcupines host the Lustre Lions Friday, Jan. 24.
