The Lustre boys defeated North Country 51-22 Jan. 17 but lost a 40-37 game to Scobey the following night. The Lions are now 4-2, 9-2 overall. The girls team fell 62-26 to North Country and dropped a 52-26 game to the Spartans. Lustre's girls team sits at 2-4, 5-6 overall.
Boys
Lustre shut North Country out in the first 8 minutes of their game while racking up 18 points. The Lions outscored the Mavericks 11-7 in the second quarter and 12-11 in the third. Lustre won the game 51-22 with a 10-4 run in the last 8 minutes.
Johnslee Pierre led all scorers with 20 points. Byron Ewing added 9 followed by Diek Olfert and Prestyn Klatt, both with 6 points. Clay Reddig hit for 4 as Cam Reddig and Joel Reddig each added 3 points.
Scobey came into Lustre and took a 12-7 lead in the first quarter. The Lions battled back to tie the game at 20 after two quarters with a 13-8 showing. Scobey regained the lead in the third on a 9-5 run. The Lions put up 12 to Scobey's 11 in the last 8 minutes but could not overcome the deficit for the 40-37 loss.
Cam Reddig led the Lions with 10 followed by Pierre with 9 and Klatt with 8 points. Ewing connected for 6 and Clay Reddig scored 4 points.
Girls
The Lions trailed the Mavericks 17-6 in the first quarter. Both teams put up 11 points in the second. Lustre fell behind further in the third when North Country went on a 21-3 run in the third before the Lions were outscored 13-6 in the fourth for the 62-26 loss.
Kencia Brown scored 19 to lead the Lions. Lauren Fast scored 3 as Lauryn Holzricther and Sidney Klatt added 2 points each.
Lustre trailed behind Scobey 18-4 in the first quarter and 29-11 at the half in a game where they struggled to get shots to drop. The Lions held tight with the Spartans in the third, 12-10, but were outscored 12-3 in the fourth as they lost 53-26.
Brown led the Lions again with 9 while Holzrichter connected for 8 points. Fast scored 5 and Klatt 4 points.
The Lions travel to Nashua to play the Porcupines Friday, Jan. 24, with games scheduled for 6 and 7:30 p.m.
