Game Slips Away From Scottie Girls

Lose 59-54 Overtime Game to Poplar

The Scottie girls basketball team dropped to 6-3 with a 59-54 overtime loss to Poplar at home Jan. 17. Glasgow went on a 17-8 run in the fourth quarter to force the extra time but lost the game as Poplar scored 8 to the Scotties 3 in overtime.

Glasgow's JV team won their game 57-32 while the C squad fell 44-42.

The Scotties led the Indians 12-11 at the end of the first quarter in Glasgow but saw the lead slip away as Poplar went on a 19-6 run in the second quarter. Glasgow outpaced Poplar 16-13 in the third and 17-8 in the fourth to force overtime at 51-51. Poplar hit a three-pointer, a field goal and three free throws in the extra time while Joely Chappell hit one from downtown as the Scotties lost the 59-54 game.

Chappell scored 19 for Glasgow while Mayzie Yoakam hit for 16 points. Paityn Britzman added 11 followed by Tanae Baker with 8 points. Baker led in assists with five followed by Chappell with three. Yoakam and Macy Martin both had one helper.

Britzman pulled 13 rebounds and Chappell had 11, giving both Scotties a double-double. Yoakam had nine boards, Martin five, Baker four, Riley Evenson-Glasoe three and Bailey Billingsley one rebound. Chappell and Yoakam led in steals, both with four. Britzman and Baker each had three takeaways while Billingsley and Evenson-Glasoe had one steal a piece. Britzman had one block for the Scotties.

Glasgow's JV team established a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and increased it to 31-16 at the half. Both teams scored 11 in the third with the Scotties going on a 15-5 run in the fourth.

Billingsley and Guinevere Abern led the team, both with 13 points. Haleigh Huntsman and Lacey White each connected for 10 as Kelbi Wersal scored 8 points. Hannah Holinde scored 3 points.

The Scottie C squad fell behind 10-5 in the first and were down 18-12 at the half. Poplar outscored them 15-13 in the third. Glasgow fought back with a 17-11 run in the fourth but lost the game.

Alexa Ball led Glasgow with 12 while Amiya Larson scored 10 points. Maddy Tatafu added 9, Grace Cornwell 6 and Breelyn Marsalek 4 points.

This week Glasgow hosts the Harlem Wildcats Thursday, Jan. 23, with games beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Scotties will be in Sidney to play the Eagles Friday, Jan. 24, beginning at 3 p.m. and take on the Warriors in Fairview Saturday, Jan. 25, starting at 1 p.m.
