Law Enforcement Report

For the week of Dec. 30 through Jan. 3, there were 31 motor vehicle stops, one report of loose dogs, two reports for public assistance, and one report of assisting another agency.

For the week of Jan. 6 through 11, there were two parking violations, two requests for VIN inspection, two reports for public assistance and four motor vehicle stops.

Monday, Dec. 30

2125 – Caller reported a drunk driver on the way to Hinsdale. She stated she attempted to pass but the car swerved and tossed a beer can at her. The reporting party is willing to sign a statement as to what she witnessed. Deputies were updated with the location and located the vehicle.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

0936 – Reporting party called in to see if anyone had turned in a wallet. She states she lost it on Sunday. A description of the wallet was provided. At 1342, she called back stating the wallet was found.

1031 – Reporting party called to state there is a truck that is parked in the middle of the street down from her residence. The tires have fallen off the truck. The truck has been there for over a month now and no one is doing anything about it. She states she has to drive around it all the time. Deputy was notified who attempted to contact the registered owner with no success.

1508 – Reporting party called stating there is a backpack with rubber gloves sitting next to it at the apartments. An officer arrived on scene and advised it is an old kids backpack. There is nothing of importance in the backpack so he hung it on the post.

1717 – Caller reported his mother lost her wallet today. A description of the wallet was provided as well as the contents that were in the wallet.

Wednesday, Jan. 1

1326 – Reporting party called stating they were traveling on MT Hwy 117 when they saw a vehicle in the ditch. The male waved them down, they stopped. The male was not making any sense when he was talking. A deputy was notified who tried to locate the vehicle. At 2350, deputy advised he made it to Nashua and had not seen the vehicle. MHP is also aware of the situation.

Thursday, Jan. 2

1420 – A 911 call was received by a male stating he believes there is a house on fire. He states there is smoke billowing out the front window and it isn’t the good kind of smoke. The caller didn’t know who owned the house or if there was anyone in the house. Northwestern Energy, Montana Dakota Utilities and Fire were called to the scene.

1404 – Reporting party called in stating that a train has been blocking the crossing. BNSF RR was notified and information was left on their recorded line.

1556 – The caller reported it’s icy by the traffic lights on Highway 2. The caller was headed westbound and turned to go through the underpass then started sliding. Wolf Point office of DOT was contacted.

1733 – Caller reported the Tampico Crossing has been blocked for 25 minutes. BNSF was notified.

1824 – Caller reported three dogs have been outside all day without shelter. She stated the dogs are out frequently with no shelter. A description of the dogs were provided as well as the potential owner. The male owner is in the hospital so he’s not there to bring the dogs inside however there is a female who also lives at the residence. A deputy was notified who spoke with the female owner.

Friday, Jan. 3

0556 – Caller wanted a ride to Wolf Point because she brought a friend to Frazer and ran out of gas. Dispatch notified her there wasn’t anyone in the area and it would be quite a while before someone could get out there. She stated she didn’t have any money because her wallet is in Wolf Point. Dispatch advised there isn’t much they can do and she stated she would go stay with her friend until she can figure out what to do.

0808 – A suspicious vehicle was reported. A deputy arrived on scene and the subject had hit a deer last night. The driver was sleeping in the vehicle when the deputy arrived on scene. He was going to try to get the vehicle into Glasgow so it can be fixed. The vehicle was able to be driven to CarQuest who has the necessary parts to get it fixed.

1806 – Deputy brought in a vehicle registration that he found outside by the front parking area.

Monday, Jan. 6

1935 – A deputy reported a man walked into a convenience store that’s being weird and avoiding the deputy. A description of the male was provided. While he was being watched, he just walked out. The store attendant stated the subject was fondling a knife when he was in there. The man was then found at another location where the male was detained as a result of a warrant. There was also paraphernalia in the vehicle.

1847 – Received an urgent hit confirmation request from the police department in Nevada regarding a vehicle. Deputy contacted the registered owner and confirmed the vehicle is still considered stolen. The registered owner was provided the contact information to the police department.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

1614 – Caller reported a pickup has been blocking the alley all day.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

1317 – Reporting party wanted to make a complaint about people parking in the handicap places when they are clearly not handicapped. He states this happens all over town, whether it is at the Hospital or the grocery store or wherever. He is tired of it and wants something done. An officer was notified.

1328 – A Valley County school superintendent advised she just had a teacher turn in drug paraphernalia that she found in her apartment that the school owns. She wants to know what Law Enforcement would like her to do with it.

1356 – Reporting party called stating he just slid on the road. City Street Department was notified. MTDOT in Glasgow was also notified that on MT Hwy 24N by St. Marie is also getting icy. At 1605, deputy also reported icy roads on MT Hwy 24N by St. Marie. He said it is snowing, everything is white. You can see where MT DOT has sanded there earlier but now it is all covered and very slick. Throughout the rest of the day, other reports of slick areas throughout the county were reported.

1610 – Caller reported that US 2 between Glasgow and Hinsdale is extremely slick. She said they saw a vehicle go off the road but was able to get back on the highway to continue on. Wolf Point DOT office was notified.

1630 – A male called stating he is in the front parking lot. He cannot get into the building as it is too icy. He states once he gets into the building he will be fine but right now he cannot get there.

1644 – Reporting party called advising they are in a moving truck pulling a diesel truck. They are just east of Nashua and are sliding all over. They have their flashers on and have pulled off the road.

1653 – Caller reported he rolled his vehicle on US 2 by the Nashua overpass. There are no injuries.

1655 – Caller reported a non-injury motor vehicle accident. He was driving a school bus that is empty, and the other vehicle is a tanker, also empty. The tanker is still in the roadway and another semi-truck hit the ditch to avoid hitting the tanker. MT DOT in Helena was notified about the blockage in the road and a local deputy was able to get the semi out of the ditch.

1802 – Reporting party said they had to give someone a ride. All the roads are icy, they were sliding backwards and there’s vehicles everywhere. The City Street Department was notified.

1759 – MTDOT in Helena called to state they issued severe driving conditions between Saco and Glasgow. Deputies were notified.

1804 – Caller said an eastbound truck started sliding and is now blocking about 1/3 of the westbound lane.

1919 – Caller reported there’s a bunch of vehicles that are stranded about one block south of the Irle School and a couple of blocks west of Candy Cane Park. The vehicles are not able to move. One was in the driving lane and people were trying to push it off. Public Works Director was notified and it was stated they are still out sanding.

Thursday, Jan. 9

0231 – Reporting party is saying husband won’t let her leave. Both are getting louder and more belligerent. RCSO was notified and arrived on scene.

1445 – MHP said he received a report of a vehicle that’s off the road on Hwy 24 N. It was reported to him that no one is in the vehicle. He wanted to know if a deputy could check to see if there’s any damage and then call back as it may must be a slide off.

2054 – Caller reported the bottom of an electric pole is on fire. Nashua Fire Chief and LRFD chief was contacted. It was determined there was no damage to the pole, just the surface tar.

2157 – Deputy requested a card for suspicious activity. The vehicle made a couple of stops around Frazer and was only at one stop for a couple of minutes. The deputy ended up stopping the vehicle.

Friday, Jan. 10

1115 – An employee with the Credit Union called to report they just took in a counterfeit $100 dollar bill. She also provided the name of the person that brought it in.

1756 – Caller reported he was headed eastbound on US 2 and he was ran off the road by a SUV that was headed westbound in the eastbound lane. He is not injured and couldn’t find any damage to his vehicle. A description of the other vehicle was provided. Caller wanted dispatch to know in case the driver is intoxicated. A second call came in at 1803, stating the vehicle was driving in the wrong lane for about ¼ mile. Deputy, Phillips County and Helena Highway Patrol was notified of this vehicle.

Saturday, Jan. 11

1530 – Reporting party called from a phone without service. He is broke down in Wolf Point and is unable to provide a mile marker. He is at the side of the road, not a hazard, and needs a tow. RCSO was notified since dispatch was unable to transfer the call. They don’t have anyone that can tow a semi but will call a wrecker service.

1609 – Caller reported snow drifting and freezing on MT Hwy 24N. Information was passed along to MDOT.

1936 – Caller requested an officer at his residence to remove three individuals. He stated the three are trying to squat at his place. The reporting party is currently in Wolf Point, and when asked where he heard about this information, no straight answer could be obtained. Roosevelt Dispatch was contacted to see if any of the three individuals had warrants, of which one did. A Valley County deputy arrived on scene and made contact with all three individuals.
