The Glasgow girls basketball team battled from behind to beat the Class A Glendive Red Devils 59-43 at home Jan. 9. They fell 55-37 the following night in Malta to the M-ettes. The Scotties now hold a 6-2 overall record.
Glasgow fell behind 14-9 against the Red Devils in the first quarter. They fought back in the second as a long three from Riley Evenson-Glasoe set the Scotties running. Paityn Britzman hit a bucket from the paint between two defenders to give the Scotties a 1-point advantage, 29-28, at the half. Glasgow held Glendive to 7 in the third and 8 in the fourth while adding 14 and 16 points to their side of the scoreboard for the 59-43 win.
Mayzie Yoakam led Glasgow with 17 while Joely Chappell hit for 16 points. Britzman added 8 as Macy Martin and Hayden Green both connected for 4 points. Bailey Billingsley and Evenson-Glasoe each hit one from beyond the arc while Tanae Baker and Kelbi Wersal both added a two-pointer.
In Malta, Glasgow fell behind 15-10 in the first quarter and trailed in scoring in each of the following three frames. The Scotties were outpaced 12-9 in the second and trailed 45-30 at the end of the third. They scored 7 in the final 8 minutes as the M-ettes put up 10 more points for the 55-37 Glasgow loss.
Chappell poured in 19 points. Yoakam added 9 while Britzman scored 5 points. Evenson-Glasoe hit a three-pointer and Green added a free throw.
JV
The Scottie JV team fell 43-25 to Glendive and 60-36 to Malta.
Glasgow scored only a free throw in the first against Glendive as the Red Devils put up 9 points. Glendive doubled their score in the second quarter while the Scotties added 5 points. Glasgow trailed 28-11 after three and were outscored 15-14 in the final quarter.
Wersal and Grace Cornwell led the team with 5 each while Billingsley scored 4 points. Hannah Holinde scored 3 as Haleigh Huntsman, Guinevere Abern, Amiya Larson and Alexa Ball scored 2 a piece.
Malta led Glasgow 9-4 at the end of one and went on a 22-12 run in the second. The Scotties were outscored 21-10 in the third but outpaced the M-ettes 10-8 in the fourth as they lost 60-36.
Wersal paced the Scotties with 13 followed by Huntsman and Holinde with 7 each. Ava Runner and Billingsley scored 4 as Maddy Tatafu added a bucket.
