Earn Conference Win Over Malta

The Scottie boys basketball team fell to the Glendive Red Devils 71-42 at home Jan. 9 but earned a conference road win over Malta 78-74 the following night. Glasgow now holds a 6-2 overall record.

Glasgow struggled to keep up with the Red Devils at home, falling 71-42 to the Class A team.

Wyatt Babb paced Glasgow with 12 while Cade Hudyma hit 10 points. Myles Yoakam added 8 and Noah Runner 6 points. Wyatt Sugg, Grady Nielsen and Connor Hudyma each scored 2 points. Yoakam had four assists for the Scotties while Connor Hudyma had three helpers. Runner, Babb, Sugg, Nicolas Solorzano, Trey Graham and Cash Stulc had one assist each.

Cade Hudyma and Connor Hudyma each pulled down four rebounds followed by Runner and Yoakam, both with three. Nielsen grabbed two while Babb, Solorzano and Stulc had one each. Nielsen, Solorzano, Yoakam and Cade Hudyma each had one steal. Yoakam had two blocks. Sugg and Nielsen stopped one shot each.

Glasgow saw the Mustangs take a 21-14 lead in the first quarter the following night in Malta but fought back with a 19-point showing in the second. Malta carried a 37-33 lead into the third but the Scotties dominated the quarter with a 23-10 run. The Scotties were outscored by 5, 27-22, in the final 8 minutes but held on for the 78-74 win.

Cade Hudyma poured in 26 while Nielsen added 24 points. Yoakam connected for 17, Babb 9 and Connor Hudyma 2 points. Babb dished out eight assists and Yoakam had six helpers. Solorzano, Nielsen and Connor Hudyma had two while Cade Hudyma had one assist.

Cade Hudyma pulled down 15 boards for a double-double. Babb grabbed eight, Yoakam six, Nielsen five, Connor Hudyma three and Solorzano one rebound. Yoakam had two steals and Babb had one.

JV

The Scottie JV team beat the Glendive squad 51-44. Glasgow trailed 12-11 after one and 26-20 at the half. The Scotties put up 17 in the third and 14 in the fourth while holding the Red Devils to 10 and 8 in the same frames.

Stulc dropped in 19 to lead Glasgow. Jackson Abern hit for 9 and Sugg 8 points. Graham and Gage Waarvick both added 7 while Davis Tolzien hit a free throw.

Malta canceled their JV game against Glasgow.

C Squad

Glasgow's C squad fell 40-29 to Glendive and 48-40 in Malta.

Gavin Redstone led the team against Glendive with 11 followed by Luke Tatafu with 6 and Hank Hopstad with 5 points. Leo Bakeberg, Aaron Zoanni and Owen Hopstad each scored 2 points.

Glasgow led 10-6 at the end of one in Malta but trailed 25-18 at the half. They were outscored 15-9 in the third but outpaced Malta 13-8 in the fourth as they fell 48-40.

Tatafu poured in 12 points while Redstone connected for 10 points. O. Hopstad scored 3 while Zoanni and H. Hopstad both added 2 points.

Glasgow hosts the Poplar Indians Friday, Jan. 17, with games beginning at 3 p.m.
