Lustre Boys, Girls Beat Dodson; Fall To Circle

Both the boys and girls basketball teams of Lustre beat the Dodson Coyotes Jan. 10 before falling to the Circle Wildcats the following night. The girls won 60-17 in Dodson while the boys won 93-33. At home the girls lost 61-18 while the boys fell 51-48 to the Wildcats.

Girls

The Lions rushed out to a 26-4 lead in the initial 8 minutes against the Coyotes and increased their lead to 35-6 at the half. Lustre shut Dodson out in the third while putting up 15 points. Dodson outpaced Lustre 11-10 in the fourth as the Lions won 60-17.

Kencia Brown led all scorers with 16 followed by Hannah Brown with 15 and Samantha Neufeld with 13 points. Ashtyn Traeholt added 7, Lauryn Holzrichter 5 with Jaden Gibson and Abby Olfert both scoring 2 points.

Circle went up 14-7 after the first 8 and lead 29-9 over the Lions at the half. Lustre was outpaced 15-4 in the third and 17-5 in the fourth as they lost 61-18.

K. Brown led Lustre with 8 while Holzrichter scored 6 points. Traeholt and Lauren Fast both connected for 2 points.

Boys

Lustre took control of their Dodson game with a 26-5 first quarter lead. They added 24 in the second to carry a 50-13 lead into the second half. The Coyotes scored 10 in the third and fourth quarters but the Lions added 29 and 14 in the same frames for the 93-33 win.

Cam Reddig hit for 19 points to lead all scorers while Joel Reddig added 13 points. Johnslee Pierre and Byron Ewing each added 11 as Prestyn Klatt connected for 10 points. Diek Olfert and Hadden Olfert both added 8 followed by Chris Traeholt with 6, Kayden Charette 5 and Wheeler Damboise with 2 points.

The Lions went back and forth with the Wildcats the following night as Lustre went up 14-6 after one. They held a 1-point lead at the half, 16-15, before going on a 17-12 run in the third. The Wildcats claimed the fourth quarter – and the game – with a 24-15 run over the Lions for the 51-48 Lustre loss.

Clay Reddig led Lustre with 14 points while Klatt and Cam Reddig both added 12 points. Pierre and Ewing each hit for 4 and D. Olfert scored 2 points.

The Lions are set to travel to Saco Friday, Jan. 17, to play the North Country Mavericks with games at 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Lustre hosts the Scobey Spartans Saturday, Jan. 18, for games at 1, 2:30, 4 and 5:30 p.m.
