Ice Dawgs Take No Bull

Beat Billings 6-0, 12-0

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs allowed no Bulls' goals as they shut out the visiting Billings team in a double header. Glasgow won 6-0 Jan. 11 and downed Billings 12-0 Jan. 12. The Dawgs now hold an 8-1-0 record and sit in third place in the Big Sky High School League, behind Miles City, 12-2, and Bozeman, 9-5.

The Saturday night game took some time to get going offensively as Billings put nine shots on net and Glasgow six in the first 17 minutes. Jack Miller broke through the Bulls' defense with 1:30 left in the period to give Glasgow their first goal. Hunter Negus added the insurance goal with 33 ticks left on the clock.

The Dawgs put two more pucks past Billings' netminder, Dominic St. Germaine, in the second period. Elijah Howland made it 3-0 5:02 into the second period. Mason Hunter also hit the back of the net unassisted, scoring at 5:36 to give the Dawgs an insurmountable lead heading into intermission.

Tavin Boland powered the Dawgs in the third period with a goal and an assist. He scored 3:07 into the final 17 minutes with an assist from Aiden Price. Charlie Cornwell made it 6-0 with just over 5 minutes to play and help from Boland.

Jacob Potter earned the shut out win for the Dawgs by turning away all 40 attempts on his net. The Glasgow offense put 21 shots on net at the other end of the ice.

The Dawgs drew six whistles in the game for significant time in the penalty box while Billings drew four trips to the sin bin.

Price, slashing, and Cornwell, interference, each drew two minutes in the first. Dillon Hughes took an extended break on a 2-and-10 checking from behind and misconduct call also in the first. He enjoyed a stretch of freedom before being sent back to the box for roughing in the second. Boland joined him briefly as he was sent off the ice for a roughing call. Price returned to the penalty box in the third for roughing.

The Dawgs continued the offensive onslaught Sunday with the return of Brody Hansen, who put up eight points in his return to the ice after serving a game suspension for a misconduct call against Mossbank.

Hansen hit the first goal of the game 3:01 into play. He assisted on Tristan Powell's goal almost four minutes later. Howland put the puck past St. Germaine with 6:10 left in the first. Thirty-five seconds later, Hughes made it 4-0 with help from Miller and Powell. Price closed out the first with help from Miller and Boland with 2:07 on the clock for a 5-0 first period lead for Glasgow.

The Dawgs lit the lamp five more times in the second period. Hunter scored less than a minute into the period with assists from Price and Hansen. Hansen hit a short-handed goal, assist Hunter, with Howland in the box for tripping. Boland scored at 11:04 with an assist from Cornwell to make it 8-0 for Glasgow.

Hansen hit another shortie at 3:21 as Miller was seated for tripping. Negus and Hunter helped Hansen make it 10-0 with 2:45 remaining before intermission. Hansen scored 41 seconds into the third with help from Cornwell and Hunter. Cornwell assisted on Hanen's, and the game's, final goal at 11:09 when the Dawgs scored short-handed with Boland in the box for roughing.

Glasgow dominated puck control, putting 54 pucks on net while Glasgow goaltender Kolten Hansen turned away 11 attempts on his home for the shut out win.

The Dawgs held their infractions to three while Billings stayed out of the box for the duration of the game. Howland, tripping, and Miller, tripping, sat in the second period while Boland served a roughing call in the third.

The Dawgs have this weekend off. They return to the ice Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26, when they host the top team in the BSHS league, the Miles City Generals. Glasgow plays Miles City at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 and at 10 a.m. Jan. 26.
