Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Frazer School was buzzing on Jan. 4, as they hosted the school's first ever Speech and Drama Invitational. Welcoming a total of nine schools with approximately 45 students and volunteers, the day was filled with competition, nerves and fun.
Frazer Speech and Drama coach Mary Zuchowski stated the Invitational could not have been successful without all of the volunteers and support from the community. "Several members of the community of Frazer served as judges. The Wolf Point community came out as well to serve as judges for our events," Zuchowski told the Courier. She was also impressed at the number of Frazer community members who came out to watch students compete and stayed around to cheer them on in the presentation of awards.
Frazer's Speech and Drama team, comprised of Takoa Old Person and Marick Old Person, were able to compete on their home turf, with T. Old Person placing second in humorous interpretation and M. Old Person placing third in program oral interpretation.
A total of nine students from Glasgow traveled to compete in the Frazer Invitational, representing the Scotties well. Once again the team placed first in Speech Sweeps, thanks to top finishes by James Pearson, Gabe Allen, Kai Combs and Connor Whitmer. The following is how all Glasgow competitors placed:
Humorous Interpretation: Gabe Proctor, third; Ash James, fifth; and Sebastian Gregg, seventh
Humorous Solo Interpretation – Averylynn Terrel, fourth
Impromptu Speech – James Pearson, second; and Gabe Allen, third
Dramatic Interpretation – Kai Combs in second place
Spontaneous Oral Interpretation – Connor Whitmer, second and Henry Holte, fourth
Only two meets remain for the Bearcubs and Scotties, before both Glasgow and Frazer travel to Froid to compete in the Eastern B/C Divisionals.
