The Scottie boys basketball team improved to 5-1 overall with wins over Wolf Point and Rocky Boy this past weekend. Glasgow earned a 49-37 conference win in Wolf Point Jan. 3 and downed Rocky Boy 81-45 at home the following night.
A huge third quarter powered the Scotties past the Wolves in Wolf Point. Glasgow trailed 10-8 after one quarter and the teams were tied at 19 heading into the second half. The Scotties poured in 19 in the third while holding the Wolves to 3 points. Wolf Point battled back with 15 in the final 8 minutes but Glasgow put up 11 to hold on for the 49-37 victory.
Cade Hudyma led the Scotties with 21 followed by Grady Nielsen with 14 points. Connor Hudyma added 8 while Wyatt Babb and Nicolas Solorzano hit for 3 each. Myles Yoakam led in assists with three while Connor Hudyma, Babb and Cade Hudyma had one helper a piece.
Cade Hudyma hit a double-double with 10 rebounds, five offensive and five defensive. Connor Hudyma and Nielsen each pulled down seven boards while Babb snagged five. Yoakam had four and Solorzano one rebound. Babb led the team in steals with three while Yoakam, Nielsen and Cade Hudyma had two each. Connor Hudyma had one takeaway. Cade Hudyma notched the team's only block.
Glasgow raced out to a 29-12 lead after one at home against Rocky Boy and led 48-21 at the half. Both teams scored 16 in the third. The Scotties closed out the game with a 17-8 run for the 81-45 win.
Nielsen and Cade Hudyma powered the team with 22 points a piece. Babb connected for 13 while Yoakam hit four from downtown for 12 points. Noah Runner and Wyatt Sugg hit 4 each while Gage Waarvik and Trey Graham added a bucket each. Babb had five helpers to lead Glasgow followed by Nielsen and Solorzano with three each, Graham with two, and Sugg and Yoakam with one assist each.
Cade Hudyma and Nielsen dominated the boards and earned double-doubles with 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Runner and Babb both pulled down five as Connor Hudyma grabbed four boards. Yoakam had three while Solorzano, Graham and Cash Stulc pulled down two a piece. Sugg had one rebound. Nielsen, Solorzano, Yoakam and Graham each had a steal for Glasgow. Waarvik blocked one shot.
JV
The JV boys won both their games as well. The Scotties beat Wolf Point 62-15 and defeated Rocky Boy 68-35.
Glasgow ran up a 22-2 lead after one in Wolf Point and led 40-7 at the half. They outscored the Wolves 16-5 in the third and 6-3 in the fourth for the 62-15 win.
Stulc led the team with 16 followed by Sugg with 12 and Davis Tolzien with 11 points. Graham added 7, Waarvik 6 and Gage Larsen and Gavin Redstone 2 a piece.
The Scotties raced out to a 29-13 lead over Rocky Boy and went up 43-15 heading into the second half. They outscored the Northern Stars 21-7 in the third but were outpaced 13-4 in the last 8 minutes for the 68-35 victory.
Waarvik poured in 23 points while Stulc and Tolzien both scored 14 points. Sugg added 10 followed by Graham with 8 and Owen Hopstad with 2 points.
C
Glasgow's C squad fell 57-36 in Wolf Point but rebounded with a 45-41 win over Rocky Boy.
The Scotties trailed 14-9 at the end of one and 30-22 at the half against Wolf Point. They were outscored 16-2 in the third but outpaced the Wolves by 1 point in the fourth as they lost 57-36.
Redstone led the Scotties with 8 followed by Larson and Hank Hopstad with 6 each. Jack Milam scored 2 points.
Glasgow led 15-13 against Rocky Boy at the end of the first and outscored the Northern Stars 9-5 in the second. The Scotties led 40-29 after three. Rocky Boy outscored them 12-5 in the fourth as Glasgow held on for the 45-41 win.
Redstone, 14, and H. Hopstad, 10, led the Scotties. Leo Bakeberg added 8 and O. Hopstad 5 points. Milam, Larsen, Aaron Zoanni and Aiden Weber scored 2 each.
Glasgow hosts Glendive Thursday, Jan. 9, with action beginning in the Dog Pound at 3:30 p.m. Glasgow travels to Malta Friday, Jan. 10, for games starting at 3 p.m.
