Nashua Girls Win One; Boys Lose Two

The Nashua girls basketball team posted their first win on the season when they defeated the Dodson Coyotes 28-25 Jan. 4. The girls hold a 1-2, 1-6 overall record with a 60-20 loss to Terry the night prior.

The Porcupines boys team fell 69-28 to Terry and lost 42-30 to Dodson. Nashua holds a 1-2, 2-5 overall record after four weeks.

Girls

The Porcupines fell behind 21-2 in Terry Jan. 2 and trailed 31-10 at the half. Nashua scored 4 in the third and 6 in the fourth as the Terriers put up 17 and 12 in the same quarters for the 60-20 win over Nashua.

Gracyn Sibley led Nashua with 8 while Dyllan Bergstrom scored 6 points. Katey Dykstra added 4 and Courtney Tolzien scored 2 points.

Nashua rebounded by breaking their 26-game losing streak the following night despite losing senior Tolzien prior to the game and having a starter, Sibley, foul out in the third.

The Porcupines battled back from a first quarter 8-6 deficit to trail 13-12 at the half. Nashua went on a 9-4 run in the third to lead 21-17 heading into the final 8 minutes. Dodson outpaced Nashua by a single point in the fourth, 8-7, but the Porcupines held on for the 28-25 win.

Bergstrom paced Nashua with 9 while Sibley and Dykstra both scored 8 points. Montana Clampitt added 2 and Britany Fuller scored a free throw.

Boys

The Porcupines fell behind 20-6 in the first quarter with an identical Terry run in the second as Nashua trailed 40-12 at the half. The Porcupines put up 7 in the third while the Terriers added 9 to the scoreboard. Nashua was outpaced 20-9 in the final eight minutes for the 69-28 loss.

Noah Leckie led Nashua with 10 followed by Charlie Kaasa with 9 points. Michael Hendry added 5 while Bubba Pugh and Wyatt Sibley each contributed 2 points.

Nashua scored 8 in the first against Dodson but the Coyotes put up 13 points. Dodson outscored the Porcupines 10-7 in the second and 6-5 in the third for a 29-20 lead heading into the final quarter. Nashua scored 10 but Dodson put up 13 for the 42-30 win over the Porcupines.

Pugh led Nashua with 12 while Kaasa added 11 points. Sibley hit for 4 and Blaze Bleazard scored 3 points.

The Porcupines travel to Circle to play the Wildcats Friday, Jan. 10, for games at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.
