Lustre Boys Win Two; Girls Drop Two

The Lustre boys added two wins to their record and hold the top slot in the District 3C with a 2-0, 7-0 overall record. They beat Frazer 84-10 Jan. 3 and downed Bainville 69-12 Jan. 4.

The Lions girls team dropped their games 70-60 to Frazer and 45-27 to Bainville. The girls sit in fourth in the district with a 1-1, 4-3 overall record.

Boys

The Lions dominated the court early against Frazer as they ran up a 26-0 lead in the first 8 minutes. In the second Lustre went on a 25-3 run for a 51-3 lead at the half. Lustre added 16 in the third while holding Frazer to 2 points and closed out the game with a 17-5 fourth quarter run for the 84-10 win.

As a team the Lions shot 58 percent from the field and 47 percent from beyond the arc. They missed all three free throws. Lustre pulled down 41 rebounds: 15 offensive and 26 defensive. They had 26 assists, 26 steals and four blocks with 15 turnovers.

Five Lions hit double digit scoring against Frazer. Chris Traehold led the team with 11 followed by Clay Reddig, Nathan Fast, Johnslee Pierre and Byron Ewing with 10 points a piece. Joel Reddig and Cam Reddig both scored 7 while Prestyn Klatt hit for 6 points.

Diek Olfert and Kayden Charette scored 4 and Wheeler Damboise added 3 points. Hadden Olfert added 2 points.

Lustre held the Bainville Bulldogs to single digit points in all four quarters Saturday night. The Lions held a 23-4 lead after one and a 41-7 lead at the half. Lustre scored 14 in both the third and fourth quarters while holding the Bulldogs to 2 and 3 points, respectively, for the 69-12 win.

The Lions shot 42 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point land. They hit 6-of-14 free throws. They pulled down 43 boards, 21 offensive and 22 defensive while dishing out 14 assists. They had 19 steals, two blocks and eight turnovers.

J. Reddig paced the Lions with 12 points followed by Cam Reddig with 11 and Klatt with 10 points. H. Olfert and Pierre scored 8 and Clay Reddig put up 7 points. D. Olfert, Charette and Ewing added 4 points each.

Girls

The Lions suffered a slow start against Frazer and trailed 15-8 after one. They put up 10 points in the second but trailed 33-18 at the half. Both teams scored 22 in the third and Lustre outpaced Frazer 20-15 in the final 8 minutes but the Lions fell 70-60.

Kencia Brown scored 27 to lead the Lions. Lauryn Holzrichter put up 14 while Hannah Brown scored 8 points. Sidney Klatt added 4 while Ashtyn Traeholt, Jaden Gibson and Samantha Neufeld put up 2 each. Lauren Fast added a free throw to the score sheet.

The Lions held tight with the Bulldogs during the first 8 minutes the following night, ending the first with a 13-12 Bainville lead. The Lions were shut out in the second while the Bulldogs added 10 points for a 23-12 lead at the half. Each team scored 12 in the third but the Bulldogs went on a 10-3 run in the fourth for the 45-27 win over the Lions.

K. Brown led the Lions with 13 while Fast scored 9 points. Klatt put up 3 and Holzrichter added 2 in the loss.

Lustre travels to Dodson Friday, Jan. 10, for games against the Coyotes at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Lions host the Circle Wildcats Saturday, Jan. 11, with games at 1, 2:30, 4 and 5:30 p.m.
