Ice Dawgs Drop Two To Mossbank Blades

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs welcomed the Mossbank (Saskatchewan, Canada) Blades to town Jan. 3 and 4 for a pair of non-league games. Glasgow dropped both contests, losing 4-0 Friday and 4-3 Saturday in a set of physical and competitive games.

The Blades dominated puck control and scoring in game one Friday. They outshot the Dawgs 42-8, converting on four of their shots against Kolten Hansen.

Neither team scored in the first of the 20-minute periods, going under Canadian rules for the visitors, before the Blades found their groove in the second. The visitors found the back of the net four times before the second intermission for their win. Goaltenders for both teams turned away all shots in the third period.

Glasgow held their penalties to three in the game while Mossbank drew five whistles. Mason Hunter, tripping, and Brody Hansen, cross-checking, were sent to the penalty box in the second while Dillon Hughes took a seat in the sin bin for elbowing in the third.

The Dawgs found their offense Saturday, playing under Montana rules with 17 minute periods. Mossbank took a 1-0 lead in the first.

They scored again in the second to take a 2-0 lead before Hansen brought the Dawgs within a goal, giving the Blades a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Elijah Howland, assist Hughes, tied the game 2:59 into the period. The Blades answered just over five minutes later. Charlie Cornwell tied the game again with help from Tavin Boland with 6:50 left on the clock.

Mossbank took advantage of a B. Hansen cross-checking/game misconduct penalty to put a puck behind Dawgs' goalie, Jacob Potter, and win the game with 3:57 left to play.

The Blades held their penalties to three in game two while the Dawgs drew six whistles. Boland sat for interference in the first. Howland, holding, and Boland, kneeing, took involuntary seats in the second. Price sat for interference in the third before Hansen took the cross-checking and game misconduct calls.

Potter saw 34 attempts on his net while Glasgow put 12 shots on goal at the other end of the ice.

The Dawgs will host Billings Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 10 and 11, for games against the Bulls. Glasgow plays at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
