North Country Boys And Girls Remain Undefeated

Defeat Nashua And Dodson

The North Country boys and girls team extended their undefeated records with wins over Frazer and Dodson. The boys won 69-23 over the Bearcubs in Frazer Dec. 20 and defeated Dodson 70-33 in Saco the following night. The Mavericks girls rolled to a 68-24 win in Frazer and defeated the Coyotes 63-12 the following night.

Boys

North Country cruised to an 18-9 lead in the first over Frazer and built up the lead to 40-11 at the half. They went on a 21-7 run in the third and outscored the Bearcubs 8-5 in the final eight minutes. The Mavericks won 69-23 after playing 4-on-4 with a player off to the side following two injuries to the Bearcubs, dropping their roster to four.

Chase Albus led all scorers with 14 followed by Laytin Erickson with 12 and Sam Simonson with 11 points. Coy Bowman hit for 9 and Jake Brown added 7 points. Blaine Downing and Kade Strommen each added 6 while Jaydeen Hanshew scored 4 points.

North Country scored 15 in the opening eight while holding Dodson to 6 in Saco. They went on a 20-11 run in the second and led 52-25 after three. The Mavericks outpaced the Coyotes by 10 in the fourth, 18-8, for the 70-33 victory.

Downing, 20, and Erickson, 18, led the team in points. Bowman added 13 and Albus put up 9 points. Brown connected for 5, Strommen 4, and Hanshew hit a free throw.

Girls

The North Country girls took control of their game against Frazer in the first quarter with a 16-6 lead. They went on a 21-9 run in the second and outscored the Bearcubs 20-3 for a 47-18 lead heading into the final quarter. North Country put up 11 more while holding Frazer to 6 for the 68-24 win.

BaiLee McColly led North Country with 20 points followed by Shelbi LaBrie who put up another 15 for the Mavericks. Ermerson Downing connected for 9, CharLee McColly and Ainsley Erickson 6 each, Gracie Wasson 5, Lyli Bear 4 and Kodi McColly 3 points.

North Country established another early lead against Dodson, going up 26-5 in the first eight minutes. They shut the Coyotes out in the second while putting up another 8 points. The Mavericks hit 21 points in the third while holding Dodson to 5 points and outscored the Coyotes 8-2 in the last quarter for the 63-12 win.

LaBrie led the team with 17 while Downing put in 11 points. C. McColly added 8, K. McColly 7, B. McColly 6 and Wasson 4 points. Kennedy Simonson and Erickson scored 3 while Bear and Berkley Hillman put up 2 each.

North Country will return to action in the new year with games against Circle and Turner. The Mavericks take on the Wildcats in Circle Friday, Jan. 3, with games at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m. They host the Tornadoes in Whitewater Saturday, Jan. 4, with games at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
