Both the North Country boys and girls basketball teams brought home two wins from Lewistown this past weekend. The girls team defeated the Centerville Miners 72-20 Dec. 13 and beat the Roy-Winifred Red Raiders 45-38 Dec. 14. The boys took down the Hobson Moore Titans 74-31 Dec. 13 and defeated Centerville 49-46 Dec. 14.
Girls
The North Country girls rushed out to a double digit lead, 18-5, over Centerville in the first quarter Friday. They increased their lead to 41-15 at the half and held the Miners to 3 in the third while scoring 15 points. North Country went on a 16-2 run in the final quarter for the 72-20 victory.
The Mavericks ran up 24 transition points, 41 points off turnovers, 8 second chance points and 48 points in the paint. The grabbed 37 rebounds, had 20 assists, 11 deflections, 23 steals, one block and 14 turnovers.
Shelbi LaBrie led all scorers with 19 followed by Emerson Downing with 15 points. Ainsley Erickson and BaiLee McColly both connected for 8 while Gracie Wasson hit for 6 points. Berkley Hillman and CharLee McColly both added 4 while Kennedy Simonson, Kodi McColly and Lyli Bear put in 2 a piece.
LaBrie also led in assists with four followed by Wasson and Downing both with three. C. McColly, B. McColly, Hillman and K. McColly all had two helpers with Simmonson getting one assist.
C. McColly and B. McColly both snagged seven rebounds while Simonson and Erickson grabbed four each. Bear and Wasson pulled down three boards while LaBrie and K. McColly had two and Downing and Berkley had one rebound. B. McColly had the team’s lone block.
North Country took a 1-point lead after the first eight minutes against Roy-Winifred, 10-9 but trailed 22-21 at the half. They put up 11 in the third while holding the Red Raiders to 8 points. The Mavericks went on a 13-8 run in the fourth for the 45-38 win.
Downing led all scorers with 13 points. B. McColly and Erickson scored 10 each. Wasson added 5, LaBrie 4 and C. McColly 3 points.
Boys
The Mavericks boys defeated the Titans 74-31 Friday after holding them to 1 point in the first and scoring 20 points. North Country put up another 22 in the second to lead 42-14 at the half. They outpaced Hobson-Moore 19-13 in the third and 15-7 in the fourth for the win.
North Country had 11 transition points, 25 points off turnovers, 13 second chance points and 44 in the paint. They had 39 rebounds, 24 assists, 12 deflections, 12 steals, seven blocks and 11 turnovers.
Blaine Downing led all scorers with 22 points followed by Laytin Erickson with 17, Coy Bowman 13 and Kade Strommen with 12 points. Chase Albus scored 6 while Jake Brown and Sam Simonson both added 3 points. Bowman led in assists with nine followed by Downing with seven, Erickson four, Brown three and Simonson one helper.
Downing hit a double-double with 14 rebounds as did Erickson with 11 boards. Strommen and Brown each pulled down three, Bowman two while Simonson and Albus had one rebound each. Bowman had four steals while Erickson, Albus and Downing had two each. Strommen and Simonson both had one takeaways. Erickson knocked down four shots, Downing two and Brown one.

North Country is scheduled to travel to Frazer Friday, Dec. 20, for girls JV, girls varsity and boys varsity games against the Bearcubs at 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m. They host the Dodson Coyotes in Saco Saturday, Dec. 21, for girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m.
