Glasgow Basketball Teams Play Class A Sidney and Glendive
The Scottie girls basketball team went 2-0 in their opening weekend with wins over Sidney and Glendive. Glasgow’s boys team went 1-1 with a win over Sidney and a road loss to Glendive.
Girls Varsity
The girls beat Sidney 50-45 Dec. 5 at home and downed Glendive 57-48 Dec. 6 on the road.
Glasgow went up 19-11 in the first quarter over Sidney at home and went on a 14-7 run in the second for a 33-18 halftime lead. The Scotties outpaced the Class A Eagles 9-7 in the third before the Eagles put up 20 to the Scotties’ 8 in the final quarter.
Mayzie Yoakam led all scorers with 24 points, hitting two three-pointers and 4-of-7 free throws. Paityn Britzman added 9 and Joely Chappell hit for 8 points. Hayden Green added 5 and Tanae Baker 4 points.
The Scotties had 10 fouls. Britzman was called for three while Riley Evenson-Glasoe, Yoakam and Green drew two whistles a piece. Baker had one call against her.
Friday night the Scottie girls leapt out to a 22-9 lead after one but Glendive fought back in the second to carry a 30-26 lead into the half. Both teams put up 7 in the third before Glasgow went on an 18-11 run in the fourth for the 51-48 win.
Yoakam again led all scorers, hitting for 19 points with four treys and 3-of-4 free throws. Chappell added 14 with two three-pointers and 2-of-3 free throws. Baker and Britzman both added 6 while Green scored 4 and Macy Martin 2 points.
Glasgow had 15 fouls over the course of the game. Chappell and Baker both drew four whistles. Yoakam and Britzman had three fouls each while Martin was called for one infraction.
Girls JV and C
The JV girls team beat Sidney 32-30. Kelbi Wersal scored 9 to lead the team. Hannah Holinde added 7, Guinevere Abern 6, Amiya Larson 4, Bailey Billingley, 3, Ava Runner 2, and Lacey White 1 point.
The JV Scotties also beat Glendive, 44-25. Holinde paced the team with 11 points. Alexa ell, White and Runner all scored 7 points. Wersal added 6, Abern 4 and Billingsley 2 points.
Glasgow’s JV team played the Lustre Christian Lions at the Class C Showcase Dec. 7. They lost 53-35. Wersal put up 9 in leading Glasgow followed by Holinde with 8, Billingsley and Larson both with 5, Abern and Runner both with 3, and Bell 2 points.
The Scottie C team claimed a 50-23 win in Glendive. Bell poured in 16 points followed by Maddy Tatafu with 151, Larson 13, Grace Cornwell 4 and Breelyn Marsalek with 2 points.
Varsity Boys
The Scottie boys defeated Sidney 79-61 Thursday at home before falling 64-47 on the road in Glendive the following day.
Cade Hudyma, Wyatt Babb and Grady Nielsen all hit double digit scoring for the Scotties. Hudyma connected for 27 while Babb hit for 20 points. Nielsen added 18 to the scoreboard. Connor Hudyma and Myles Yoakam both scored 6 and Nick Solorzano put up 2 points.
Cade Hudyma also led in rebounds with 13, 11 defensive and two offensive. Connor Hudyma grabbed seven boards, Nielsen six, Babb five and Yoakam and Solorzano two each. Babb led in assists with nine followed by Cade Hudyma with four, Connor Hudyma with two, and Yoakam and Solorzano with one a piece. Babb also had four steals for Glasgow with Nielsen, Solorzano and Noah Runner with one takeaway a piece.
Yoakam fouled out of the game. Cade Hudyma drew four whistles and Babb two while Connor Hudyma and Solorzano had one infraction each.
Friday night in Glendive, the Scotties led 12-11 after one and 23-22 at the half. Glasgow increased their lead to two points after three, 40-38. Glendive went on a 26-7 run to take the 64-47 win over the Scotties.
Cade Hudyma paced Glasgow with 21 points. Babb scored 9, Nielsen 7, Yoakam 6 and Connor Hudyma 4 points. Babb led the team in assists with three while Nielsen and Solorzano had two helpers each. Connor Hudyma, Yoakam and Cade Hudyma had an assist each.
Babb pulled down nine rebounds followed by Nielsen with seven, Connor Hudyma and Cade Hudyma each with six, and Yoakam and Solorzano both with three.
Boys JV and C
Scores for the Scottie JV games against Sidney and Glendive were unavailable. Glasgow played Lustre Christian Christian Saturday during the Class C Showcase in Glasgow. Lustre beat Glasgow 68-23. Jackson Abern and Noah Runner both put up 6 points followed by Andy Hanson with 4, Wyatt Sugg with 3, and Trey Graham and Davis Tolzien with 1 each.
The Scottie C team beat Sidney 42-35. Hank Hopstad drained 20 points to lead Glasgow while Gavin Redstone scored 12, Luke Tatafu 8 and Leo Bakeberg 2 points.
The Scotties will attend the Red Lodge Tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14.
