The Nashua boys and girls basketball teams opened their 2024-25 season at the 12th Annual Class C Showcase in Glasgow, held Dec. 6 and 7.
The boys lost their games to the MonDak Thunder Friday, 55-48, and the Plevna Cougars Saturday, 61-38.
Nashua lost 55-48 to MonDak after trailing 16-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Porcupines outpaced the Thunder 14-10 in the second quarter while both teams put up 10 in the third. MonDak scored 19 to Nashua's 14 in the final quarter for the Porcupines' loss.
Saturday, the Porcupines fell behind 19-9 after one against the Cougars. Nashua fought back in the second, getting outscored by a single point 15-14. Plevna increased their lead in the third by putting up 9 to Nashua's 5 points and sealed the game with an 18-10 final quarter.
The girls' team also lost their opening two games, falling 52-23 to MonDak Friday and 52-21 to Plevna Saturday.
Nashua was outpaced 13-2 in the first quarter against the Thunder and fell behind 27-10 at the half. MonDak outscored the Porcupines 14-5 in the third and 11-8 in the fourth for Nashua's first loss.
Gracyn Sibley paced Nashua with 10 points followed by Dyllan Bergstrom with 7 and Katey Dykstra with 6 points.
The Porcupines were only able to score 2 points in the first quarter the following day against Plevna as well as the Cougars hit an 8-2 lead after one. Plevna increased their lead with 19 in the second and 18 in the third while holding Nashua to 6 and 7 in the same quarters. The Porcupines were outscored by 1 point in the fourth, 7-6, for the 52-21 loss.
Bergstrom and Sibley both put up 7 points for Nashua. Dykstra scored 5 and Courtney Tolzien 2 points in the loss.
Nashua hosts the Wolf Point Wolves JV teams Friday, Dec. 13, for games at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The Porcupines welcome the Frazer Bearcubs to town Tuesday, Dec. 17, with games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
