Lustre Christian Basketball Teams Open 2-0 At Class C Showcase

The Lustre Christian Lions basketball teams opened their seasons at the 12th Annual Class C Showcase in Glasgow Dec. 6 and 7. Both the boys and girls teams start the 2024-25 season with a 2-0 record with wins over Plevna and the Glasgow JV teams.

The girls team beat the Plevna Cougars 53-45 Friday and downed the Glasgow JV team 53-35 Saturday.

The Lions established an 11-8 lead over the Cougars in the first quarter and added 16 in the second while holding Plevna to 11 points. Lustre Christian increased their lead to 32-27 after three quarters. The Cougars fought back in the final quarter with 18 points while holding the Lions to 11 as Lustre took the 53-45 victory.

Kencia Brown paced the Lions with 18 points followed by Lauryn Holzrichter with 14 and Lauren Fast with 10 points. Hannah Brown and Sidney Klatt both put up 4 points. Abby Olfert scored 2 and Jaden Gibson 1 point.

Saturday, the Lions took a 14-12 lead over the Scotties after one and a 25-19 lead at the half. Lustre Christian outscored Glasgow 11-8 in the third and 17-8 in the final quarter for the 53-35 win.

K. Brown racked up 31 points in the win while Holzrichter scored 12 points. Klatt and Fast both scored 3 points while Ashtyn Traeholt, Gibson and Justice Byers scored 2 points a piece.

The Lions boys team downed Plevna 75-28 Friday and defeated the Glasgow JV 68-21 Saturday.

Lustre Christian established a 22-6 lead in the first and drained another 28 in the second quarter while holding the Cougars to 6 for 50-12 lead at the half. The Lions added 18 in the third while the Cougars hit for 8 points. Plevna outscored Lustre Christian 8-7 in the final quarter as the Lions won 75-28.

The Lions shot 56 percent from the field, 32-57, and went 8-18 on three pointers, 44 percent. They hit 3-9 free throws.

Lustre Christian grabbed 25 rebounds, eight offensive and 17 defensive. They had 17 assists, 25 steals, two blocks, 14 turnovers and 16 personal fouls.

Johnslee Pierre led the Lions with 17 points followed by Hadden Olfert with 11 and Cam Reddig and Joel Reddig, both with 10 points. Byron Ewing added 7, Prestyn Klatt 6, Diek Olfert and Clay Reddig 5 each, and Wheeler Damboise with 4 points.

Saturday, the Lions held the Scotties to 3 points in the first quarter while putting 20 on their side of the scoreboard. Lustre increased the lead to 43-11 at the half and outscored Glasgow 13-4 in the third quarter. Lustre added another 12 in the fourth and held the Scotties to 6 for the 68-21 victory.

The Lions shot 42 percent from the field, 27-64, and 33 percent from three point range, 10-30, while hitting 4-10 free throws. Lustre Christian pulled down 34 total boards, 15 offensive and 19 defensive. They had 18 assists, 17 steals, six blocks, 10 turnovers and nine fouls.

Cam Reddig led the Lions with 14 points followed by Pierre with 13 and Klatt with 12 points. J. Reddig hit for 9 while Clay Reddig and Ewing each add 6 points. Olfert scored 5 points.

The Lions will attend the Manhattan Christian Invite Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14, with games at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m.
