Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Several years ago, Sean R. Heavey Gallery opened its doors to celebrate the Icelandic tradition of JOLAKOKAFLOD. Jolakokaflod pronounced “yo-la-bok-a-flot” means “Christmas Book Flood” and is the tradition of giving and receiving of books on Christmas Eve.
On Sunday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy Jolakokaflod at the Sean R. Heavey Gallery once again, hosted by the Loaded Toad. Please bring a wrapped book, new or gently used, along with chocolate attached to the book. The event is open to all ages, and we ask that each participant brings a book appropriate for their age.
The Loaded Toad will be open for those who would like to enjoy a beverage whilst visiting and opening reading materials for Christmas Eve.
We encourage you to bring a book that is one that you have enjoyed reading or an author whom you have found inspiring – fiction, non-fiction, poetry, travel, etc. - but remember that since these books are wrapped, it will be a surprise to the recipient. A 60-year old man may not want to read about the stages of pregnancy on Christmas Eve!
Books may be found locally at the Caring Hands Thrift Store, on the Friends of the Library cart in the Glasgow City-County Library, Shippwrecked to name a few, or per chance on your travels.
We look forward to seeing you on Dec. 22 and the treasured books that you bring.
