Advance to Northern B Divisional in Shelby
The Glasgow Scottie volleyball team won two of four matches at the District 2B Volleyball Tournament in Malta, held Oct. 31-Nov. 2, for the right to advance. Glasgow takes their third place showing in Malta to the Northern B Divisional Tournament in Shelby this weekend. The Scotties fell to Malta twice but defeated Wolf Point and Harlem to earn District hardware.
Glasgow opened the District 2B tournament with a bye as the second seed. Friday they faced the Malta M-ettes who beat Harlem Thursday. The Scotties took the host team to five sets in the match but lost, 18-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-12, 6-15.
Malta put up 12 aces, 40 kills, 38 assists, 12 blocks and 98 digs to Glasgow's nine aces, 47 kills, 42 assists, 11 blocks and 113 digs.
Ella Eggebrecht and Macy Martin led the Scotties in aces with three each. Martin also led in assists, notching 37 of the team's total. Halle Hunter stopped five Malta shots to lead in blocks. Joely Chappell led the Scotties in both kills and digs with 13 and 35, respectively.
The Friday loss pushed Glasgow into loser-out action that afternoon against the Wolf Point Wolves, who had fallen to Poplar in round one. The Scotties swept the match for a 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 victory.
The Scotties notched seven aces, 26 kills, 19 assists, nine blocks and 53 digs to the Wolves' six aces, 14 kills, 14 assists, three blocks and 68 digs.
Chappell and Eggebrecht paced the Scotties in aces with two a piece. Mayzie Yoakam put up seven kills for Glasgow. Martin had all 19 of Glasgow's assists. Amber Pearson dominated the net with five blocks. Martin and Chappell led in digs with 11 each.
The win advanced the Scotties to the semifinals to take on Harlem that evening. The Wildcats had lost to Malta and defeated Poplar in the first two rounds.
Glasgow again swept the match, even with Harlem taking the second set to extra points. The Scotties won 25-12, 26-24, 25-14.
In the third match Glasgow put 10 aces, 30 kills, 28 assists, 14 blocks and 58 digs on the stats sheet. Harlem's stats were unavailable.
Martin had four aces and 26 assists for the Scotties. Chappell led in kills with 12 and added 20 digs. Hayden Green knocked down seven Wildcats' scoring attempts to lead Glasgow.
Win number two for Glasgow advanced them to the third place match and a rematch Saturday evening against the M-ettes, who had fallen to Fairview in the undefeated semifinal.
The Scotties fell in three sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17, to the M-ettes to take third in the District. Glasgow registered four aces, 20 kills, 17 assists, seven blocks and 68 digs while Malta had 15 aces, 31 kills, 29 assists, nine blocks and 70 digs.
Hunter notched two of Glasgow's four aces while Chappell led in kills with eight. Martin put up 16 of 17 for the Scotties' assist leader. Yoakam had 15 digs to lead Glasgow. Green, Pearson and Hunter led in blocks with two a piece.
Malta finished in second place after losing 3-2 in five sets to Fairview.
Glasgow travels to Shelby for the Northern B Divisional to be held Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 7-9. The Scotties open play Thursday at 3:15 p.m. against the Shelby Coyotes in the last match of the opening round. Harlem plays Fairfield at 10 a.m. followed by Chinook versus Malta at 11:45 a.m. Choteau takes on Fairview at 1:30 p.m.
