The Lustre Christian volleyball team’s 2024 season ended Nov. 1 at the District 1C Tournament in Plentywood. The Lions fell to the MonDak Thunder and the Richey-Lambert Fusion.
Lustre Christian opened the tournament Thursday in a match against MonDak. The Lions dropped the first two sets but fought back to win the third and fourth games. The Thunder took the fifth set as the Lions fell 15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 8-15.
Lustre set a new team goal with 90 percent serving overall. Jaden Gibson led the Lions in kills with 10 followed by Lauryn Holzrichter and Kencia Brown with seven each. Abby Olfert had 27 assists and Rachel Pew had four aces to lead Lustre Christian. Holcrichter led in digs with 18 while Brown added 11 digs to the stats sheet. Jaden Gibson had one block. Lustre’s serve receptions leaders were Hannah Brown with 21 or 86 percent overall and Holzrichter at 81 percent overall.
The Lions moved to the back side of the bracket to take on Richey-Lambert in loser-out action. The Fusion had defeated Nashua and fallen to North Country. Lustre lost in three sets, 22-25, 13-25, 13-25, as their season came to an end.
Gibson led the Lions in kills with five followed by Holzrichter and K. Brown with four each. Olfert put up 16 assists for Lustre while H. Brown led in aces with two. Coach Mary Zerbe noted H. Brown and Lauren Fast each contributed 100 percent to the serving stat. Fast put up 16 digs in leading the Lions while K. Brown and Holzrichter added nine each. Gibson had one block again for Lustre. K. Brown led in serve reception with 19 followed by H. Brown and Holzrichter with 17 a piece.
Lustre finished the season with a 2-9, 5-13 overall record. The Lions will lose seniors Abby Olfert, Jaden Gibson, Rachel Pew and Katie Calderone to graduation, looking to return a young roster next season.
