Nelene A. Hallberg

Nelene A. Hallberg, age 79 of Glasgow, Mont., passed away on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, with family by her side at her residence in Prairie Ridge Village, Glasgow.

There will be a funeral service for Nelene starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Bell Mortuary, Glasgow, with a reception to follow.

Nelene will be laid to rest next to her parents in Pioneer Cemetery at Jordan, Mont., at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

She was born on Dec. 26, 1944, in Billings, Mont., to Carl (Marvin) and Dorothea Hallberg. She completed 12 years of school in the Garfield County school system and graduated in May of 1963. In the fall of 1963, she went to college at Bozeman, Billings Business College and finally Eastern Montana College in Billings. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a major in business and physical education in 1969.

She started her teaching career in 1969, teaching business at Poplar High School. After seven years, she decided to move west and settled in Glasgow. She taught there for 18 years and retired in May of 1994 with 25 years as a teacher. During that time, she was blessed to become a foster mom for Sherrie Thompson- whom she loved dearly. Following her retirement from teaching, she started work as a data entry clerk at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital. She enjoyed the work and found it less stressful than teaching.

Nelene's activities included being the cheerleader and pep club advisor, which kept her involved in sporting activities and some traveling as the chaperone. During the summers, she enjoyed playing softball- especially tournaments. At the age of 41, she was chosen as the MVP of the tournament- she was very proud of that accomplishment. The following year, a rotator cuff injury and the resulting surgery forced her to give up the passion of playing softball.

In her spare time, Nelene enjoyed fishing, camping, working with plastic canvas, making gifts for others, playing cards and travelling whenever possible. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families.

Nelene was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Dorothea Hallberg; her brothers, Don and Dale Hallberg; and brother-in-law Ted Haider.

She is survived by her sister, Alyce Haider; nephews Marvin (Helen), Tyler (Juanita), and Myles (Laura) Haider; nieces Missy (Ben) Struble and Tina Houim; great-nieces Jasmine, Roxanne, Bandy and Jaymie; and a great-nephew Travis.
