Defeat Eagles 32-6 On The Road

Glasgow’s football team came home from Fairfield Oct. 18 with a dominant 32-6 win. The Scotties are now 3-1 in the conference with a 6-2 overall record.

“Big conference road win to lock up the 2 seed in the North. Our guys came out firing in the first half after a long bus trip,” Offensive Coordinator Sam Tedrow told the Courier. “Anytime you can start the game with a kickoff return for touchdown, it really sets the tone.”

Khye Gamas set that tone returning the opening kick off for an 80-yard touchdown. Jose Ramon Osuna Lopez add the kick to give Glasgow a 7-0 lead to start the game. The Scotties increased their lead to 9-0 with a safety on Fairfield’s first possession of the game. Osuna Lopez hit a field goal to increase the lead to 12-0. The Scotties ended the quarter with a Gamas 2-yard touchdown and a PAT from Osuna Lopez for a 19-0 advantage.

Glasgow dominated the second quarter as well, converting a seven-plus minute drive into a 19-yard touchdown catch by Wyatt Babb. Osuna Lopez scored the PAT for a 26-0 lead. The defense shown the remainder of the quarter as Tavin Boland came down with an interception. Fairfield answered in kind with one of their own but Gamas returned the ball to the Scotties with another Glasgow interception with 36 seconds left in the half to prevent an Eagles score.

Fairfield lit up their side of the scoreboard with a touchdown with 4:06 left in the third quarter but the Scottie defense blocked the kick to make the score 26-6. Early in the fourth Glasgow scored the final touchdown of the game on a 5-yard quarterback keeper. The Eagles stopped the Scotties’ 2-point attempt. Coy Nelson came down with an interception to prevent Fairfield from seeing their end zone again, making the final score 32-6.

Glasgow put up 322 total offensive yards, 317 net. Gamas was 8-for-21 on passes, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He gained 87 total yards or 4.14 yards per attempt. Babb led in receiving yards with one touchdown on four catches, advancing Glasgow 46 total yards. Wyatt Sugg had three receptions for 33 yards and Boland added one catch for eight yards.

The Scotties had 42 total carries for 235 rushing yards, averaging 5.6 yards a carry, and scored two touchdowns. Gamas had 14 carries for 108 yards, 7.7 yards per carry. He scored both rushing touchdowns for Glasgow. Sugg gained 66 yards on 13 carries, 5.1 yards per rush, and Trey Graham added 59 yards on 12 carries, a 4.9 yard per carry average. Grady Nielsen had one carry for 3 yards and the team lost one yard on two carries.

Glasgow had 17 first downs and went 8-for-14 on third downs while going 0-for-2 on fourth downs. They were 4-for-6 in the redzone and converted 1-of-1 3-point attempts and 3-of-3 PATs while getting shut down on their one two-point attempt.

Defensively, the Scotties held Fairfield to only 85 yards. The Eagles gained 112 yards on 13-of-28 passing yards and lost 17 yards on 20 rushing attempts.

Myles Yoakam and Jaydeen Hanshew led the defensive line with seven tackles each. Yoakam had four unassisted and two assisted tackles with one for loss. Hanshew recorded four unassisted and three assisted tackles with a hurry. Coy Nelson added six total tackles: one unassisted, three assisted and two for loss. He also had an interception. Kade Strommen and Sugg both put five total tackles on the stats sheet. Strommen notched four unassisted and one assisted with three pass break ups. Sugg put up two unassisted and three assisted takedowns.

Connor Hudyma and Graham both put up three total tackles. Hudyma had one unassisted and two assisted with a forced fumble. Graham notched two unassisted and one assisted. Michael King added two assisted takedowns to the books. Andrew Linder put up a tackle for loss while Gamas had one unassisted, a pass break up and an interception. Nielsen had one unassisted, a pass break up and 1.5 sacks with Babb getting the other half of one of those sacks and a hurry.

Dillon Hughes and Cash Stulc each added one unassisted tackle. Will Kirkland put up one assisted tackles with two sacks and two hurries. Boland had an unassisted tackle plus a pass break up and an interception.

Osuna Lopez went 4-for-4 on the PAT and had kick offs for TB, 40, 35, 35, TB and 25 OB yards. Babb gained 27 yards on one punt. Gamas had an 80 yard kick off return for a touchdown and a 24 yard return after the safety. Boland advance 18 yards on one punt return.

“Still a few things to polish up on both sides of the ball as we head towards playoffs in the next few weeks. We need to keep progressing as a team if we want to make a deep run,” Tedrow concluded. “But first, it’s time to finish the regular season strong with Wolf Point for senior night.”

Glasgow hosts the Wolf Point Wolves Friday, Oct. 25, for a 7 p.m. kick off to conclude the regular season at home.
