Scottie Football Downs Conrad 43-6

The Scottie football team rolled over the Conrad Cowboys 43-6 at home Oct. 11. Glasgow let the visitors score once in the first quarter but shut them out the remainder of the game for the conference win. The Scotties now hold a 5-2 overall record, 2-1 in the conference.

“Awesome performance by both the Defense and Offense in this one. Conrad is a solid team and they came in schematically trying to shut down our outside run game and eliminate [Wyatt] Babb in the passing game. So, we took advantage of the inside run,” Offensive Coordinator Sam Tedrow told the Courier. “Wyatt Sugg had his best game of the season on both sides of the ball, gashing them at running back and then playing an aggressive outside backer helping to stop the run at the line of scrimmage and defend the pass.”

Glasgow scored first in the game and gave up one touchdown to Conrad before throwing 36 more points on the board over the course of the game. Khye Gamas led the Scotties with three rushing touchdowns while Sugg added two and Trey Graham scored one. Babb came down with a pass for a touchdown and Jose Ramon Osuna Lopez added a field goal.

The Scotties put up 41 passing yards, going 3-for-7 and gaining 5.1 yards per attempt. Gamas had a 31-yard pass to Babb for a touchdown. Tavin Boland had a 10-yard catch and Graham lost 5 yards on his reception from Cash Stulc.

The Scotties gained 233 yards on their rushing game. They averaged 8.03 yards on 29 carries. Gamas had a 42-yard, a 36-yard and a 34-yard touchdown on five carries for 118 yards. Sugg added 75 yards on 14 carries with a 21-yard and a 12-yard touchdown. Graham added a 5-yard touchdown on seven carries for an 11-yard total gain. Stulc advanced the Scotties 25 yards on two carries while Grady Nielsen lost 4 yards on one carry.

Glasgow gained 269 total yards, 272 net. They went 4-for-8 on third downs and 1-for-1 on fourth downs. They were 2-of-3 in the redzone while succeeding on both two point attempts and going 2-for-5 on PATs.

“Credit has to go to our O-line in this one. They were facing 7 to 8 guys blitzing on almost every play. Their communication continues to improve each game and now we’re getting the push up front.,” Tedrow added.

Defensively, the Scotties gave up 164 total yards to Conrad. The Cowboys gained 60 yards on 32 rushing attempts and completed just 8 of 33 passes for 104 yards.

Sugg led the defensive line with nine total tackles, four unassisted and four assisted with a tackle for loss. He also had a pass break up and an interception. Coy Nelson and Gamas both added seven total tackles to the stats sheet. Nelson put up five unassisted and two assisted tackles with three pass break ups. Gamas added four unassisted and two assisted tackles with a tackle for loss and a pass break up. Jaydeen Hanshew also had seen total tackles with five unassisted and two assisted takedowns. He added three tackles for loss and a sack.

Boland put up four unassisted tackles with two pass break ups. Connor Hudyma, Myles Yoakam, Kade Strommen, Dillon Hughes and Michael King had three tackles a piece. Hudyma notched two unassisted and one assisted with three pass break ups. Yoakam had one unassisted, one assisted and one for loss. “We still haven’t played our best football yet, as evident by some stalled drives and turnovers in the first half. With only two weeks of the regular season left it’s time to start polishing up a few things and hit our stride as we head to Fairfield next week,” Tedrow concluded.

The Scotties travel to Fairfield Friday, Oct. 18, to take on the Eagles at 7 p.m.
