Defeats Cut Bank 48-6
The Scotties brought home a 48-6 conference win from Cut Bank Oct. 4 after rushing out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter. Glasgow ran up the score in the second and third quarters for the win. “Probably the windiest game any of us have been a part of, definitely had an impact on play calling for both sides. Super proud of our guys for battling through that adversity and keeping a business as usual mentality from the start,” Offensive Coordinator Sam Tedrow told the Courier.
Khye Gamas started the scoring action 44 seconds into the game on a 42-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion by Wyatt Sugg put the Scotties up 8-0. Glasgow added another touchdown in the first when Sugg ran the ball 21 yards before Cut Bank scored their own.
The Scottie defense shut down the Wolves for the remainder of the game as Glasgow added 15 points in the second quarter and 19 in the third. In the second, Gamas added a 35-yard run and a two-point pass to Wyatt Babb while Sugg had an 12-yard run with a successful Jose Ramon Osuna Lopez kick. Gamas scored on a 34-yard run in the third and hit Babb on a 31-yard pass. Lopez added the kick. Trey Graham closed out the scoring with a 5 yard run.
The Scotties put up 269 total, 272 net yards of offense. They went 4-for-8 on third downs and 1-for-1 on fourth downs while going 2-for-3 in the red zone. Glasgow notched 36 yards passing on 3-for-7 passing, gaining 5.1 yards per attempt. The team gained 233 rushing yards on 29 carries, advancing 8.03 yards per carry.
Gamas went 2-for-6 on passes for 41 yards with one touchdown. Cash Stulc had one pass for -5 yards. Babb came down with one catch for his 31 yard touchdown. Tavin Boland gained 10 yards on one reception while Graham had a -5 yard catch.
Gamas led the team in rushing with five carries for 118 yards. He scored three touchdowns and averaged 23.6 yards per carry. Sugg added 14 carries for 75 yards, scoring two touchdowns and gaining 5.36 yards per run. Stulc had two carries for 25 yards, 12.5 yards average. Graham averaged 1.6 yards on seven runs for a total of 11 yards gain. Grady Nielsen had on carry for loss at four yards.
Glasgow shut down Cut Bank’s offense, holding them to 28 total yards, 35 passing and -7 rushing. The Wolves went 5-for-12 on passes for an average of 7 yards per attempt and averaged -0.19 yards on 37 rushing attempts.
Connor Hudyma led the D line with nine total tackles: six unassisted, two assisted and one for loss. Will Kirkland added three unassisted, two assisted and three tackles for loss for a total of eight as well as two sacks and a forced fumble. Andrew Linder, Nielsen and Kade Strommen added five total tackles a piece. Linder had two unassisted, one assisted and one for loss as well as a hurry. Nielsen added three unassisted and two assisted with a fumble recovery. Strommen notched three unassisted, one assisted and one for loss.
Coy Nelson, Jaydeen Hanshew and Sugg each recorded four total tackles. Nelson had three assisted and one unassisted. Hanshew added two unassisted, one assisted and one for loss as well as a sack. Sugg put two tackles for loss, one unassisted and one assisted in the books. Dillon Hughes had one assisted and one unassisted plus a pass break up. Michael King had one assisted and one unassisted tackles in the game. Eli Howland, Gamas, Boland and Stulc each put up one unassisted tackle.
On special teams, Osuna Lopez had seven kick offs for 52, -26, 35, 38 and 45 yards with two touchbacks. He went 2-for-4 on PATs and 0-for-1 on field goals. Babb gained 55 and 14 yards on two punts. Hughes had a 7 yard kick off return while Boland had two punt returns for 28 and 0 yards.
“Great to get a bounce back win like this one following the last two weeks. Lots of great performances in this one. Awesome to see young guys like Trey Graham and Cash Stulc get in the game and perform well against an opposing varsity team,” Tedrow said. “Time to keep progressing and developing as a team as we are fully into the back half of the season.”
Glasgow hosts Conrad Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., following a free will offering tailgate meal served by Reynolds beginning at 5 p.m. All proceeds will go the Scottie Booster Club.
