Scottie Football Falls In Malta

The Scottie football team fell 48-26 in Malta Sept. 27 in a tightly fought battle. The Mustangs took the lead early in the game but the Scotties answered several times throughout to stay close until late in play. A late touchdown from the Mustangs secured the win over the Scotties.

Glasgow gave up 343 yards, 383 with four penalties, to Malta. The Mustangs had 31 rushing attempts, gaining 118 yards, and went 10-for-15 on passes for a 225 yard gain.

Wyatt Sugg and Grady Nielsen led the defensive line with six tackles each. Sugg had three unassisted and three assisted tackles. Nielsen put up five unassisted tackles and a tackle for loss plus a pass break up. Will Kirkland had four unassisted tackles and a tackle for loss. Jaydeen Hanshew and Tavin Boland both had four total tackles. Hanshew put up two unassisted, one assisted, a tackle for loss, a sack and a hurry. Boland had four solo tackles and an interception.

Kade Strommen added an unassisted, an assisted tackle and a pass break up. Coy Nelson put up two unassisted tackles and Myles Yoakam had an unassisted tackle and a tackle for loss. Connor Hudyma notched a tackle for loss. Nick Solorzano, Khye Gamas, Liam Chapman and Dillon Hughes each had one unassisted tackle. Andrew Linder had one sack while Cade Hudyma had an assisted tackle and a pass break up.

Rex Monson had two kick offs for 22 and 20 yards while Jose Ramon Osuna Lopez had three kick offs for 30, 25 and -40 on a touchdown. Gamas had a 22- and a 30-yard punt while Babb had a 28-yard punt. Solorzano led on kick off returns with three for 38, 30 and 15 yards. Chapman added one return for 17 yards and Boland had a 15 yard return. Boland also had a 1 yard punt return.

Offensively Glasgow put up 345 total yards, 325 net yards. The Scotties took 52 yards in penalties. Glasgow had 236 passing yards and 109 rushing yards.

Gamas went 15-for-23 on passes with one interception for a 65% completion rate. He averaged 10.3 yards per pass. Babb came down with six passes for 91 yards and a 11 yard touchdown. Solorzano had one 48 yard reception for a touchdown. Nielsen came down with a 34 yard catch for a touchdown. Chapman had two catches for 25 yards while Strommen gained 18 yards on two catches. Cade Hudyma had one catch for 10 yards and Boland advanced the Scotties 9 yards on one catch. Sugg had a 1 yard catch.

Sugg led the team in rushing with 101 yards. He had 18 carries for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. Gamas gained 26 yards on five carries and Chapman had two carries for 2 yards.

Glasgow had 13 first downs while going 5-for-13 on third downs and 2-for-3 on fourth downs. They went 2-for-3 in the redzone. Glasgow was successful on one of two point attempts while not scoring on their field goal or PAT attempts. The Scotties lost 12 yards on sacks.

Glasgow is on the road again this week. The Scotties travel to Cut Bank Friday, Oct. 4, to take on the Wolves at 7 p.m. The Scottie JV team hosts Malta Monday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m.
