Scottie Volleyball Slams Past Poplar, Falls To Sidney

The Scottie volleyball team defeated the Poplar Indians Sept. 19 in five sets before falling in three to the Sidney Eagles Sept. 21, both matches at home.

Glasgow won their first set against Poplar handily 25-14 on a Mayzie Yoakam spike. The Indians played better in the second game as Glasgow lost 22-25. The Scotties started strong in the third but struggled midway through, falling 23-25.

The Scotties recovered strongly in the fourth set, going on to win 25-10 with cleaner play. Poplar challenged Glasgow in the final and deciding game, but the Scotties took it with a 15-13 for the match win.

The Scotties had 17 aces, 45 kills, 34 assists, seven blocks and 82 digs. The Indians put 14 aces, 39 kills, 36 assists, five blocks and 94 digs on the stats sheet.

Joely Chappell led Glasgow in aces with six, in kills with 13 and had 24 digs. Macy Martin put up 31 assists. Hayden Green knocked down five Poplar shots in leading the home team.

The JV and C teams also won their matches. The JV team won in three 25-9, 25-14, 15-10. The C squad also won their match in three sets, 28-26, 25-16, 15-7.

Glasgow welcomed the Class A Eagles two days later. The Scotties fell behind and lost the first two sets 12-25, 13-25. They played stronger in the third but were defeated 19-25.

Glasgow had one ace, 18 kills, 16 assists, 22 blocks and 89 digs. Stats for Sidney were unavailable.

Yoakam had the only ace for Glasgow. Chappell led in kills with seven and had 23 of the Scotties' digs. Martin led in assists with 14 and Halle Hunter had 11 blocks for Glasgow.

The JV and C teams also lost their matches to Sidney. The JV team fell 11-25, 12-25, 12-15 while the C team took their match to five sets. Glasgow lost 13-25, 25-22, 15-13, 10-15, 11-15.

Glasgow hosts Wolf Point Thursday, Sept. 26, for C, JV and varsity action starting at 4:30 p.m. All three teams travel to Sidney Friday, Sept. 27, to begin matches at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, Glasgow welcomes Glendive to town for C, JV and varsity matches beginning at 4:30 p.m.
