Scottie Football Falls To Tigers For Homecoming

Take 3-1 Record To Malta This Week

The Scotties hosted the Manhattan Tigers for Homecoming Sept. 20. Glasgow struck first but Manhattan came from behind in a tight defensive game to win 8-6.

"What a battle for Homecoming this year. A nonstop physical game from start to finish. Manhattan's front 7 took it to us in the run game, we really struggled to get anything rolling on the ground," Offensive Coordinator Sam Tedrow told the Courier. "However, we did some nice things in the air. Khye [Gamas] continues to grow as a passer and I thought he saw the routes coming open super well in this one."

Glasgow kicked off first in the game and stopped Manhattan's first possession. After some back and forth play, Wyatt Babb came down with a 35-yard throw from Gamas for a Scottie touchdown. The PAT went wide, leaving a Glasgow 6-0 lead with 4:50 remaining in the first quarter.

Manhattan answered shortly into the second quarter on a long bomb pass and reception. They took the lead with a successful two point conversion. The score held out for the remainder of the game as the defenses battled up and down the field.

Glasgow gave up 278 total yards to Manhattan. The Tigers had 56 rushing attempts for 153 yards and went 10-for-20 on passes for 125 yards gain.

Connor Hudyma powered the defensive line with 10 total tackles – six unassisted and four assisted. Nick Solorzano put up eight total tackles with three unassisted and five assisted takedowns. Jaydeen Hanshew added seven total tackles – four unassisted and three for loss – plus two hurries. Coy Nelson and Wyatt Sugg both notched six unassisted tackles.

Liam Chapman took down five Tigers unassisted while Grady Nielsen put up five total tackles – two unassisted, two unassisted an done for loss. William Kirkland also had five total tackles – one unassisted and four for lossvwhile Gamas had three unassisted and two assisted with a pass break up.

Dillon Hughes had three unassisted and one assisted tackles with a hurry. Andrew Linder put up three unassisted tackles. Tavin Boland had two unassisted tackles with a pass break up and Kade Strommen had two unassisted tackles. Cade Hudyma put a sack and a hurry on the stats sheet.

Rex Monson gained 30 and 28 yards on his two kick offs. Gamas had four punts for 30, 65, 20 and 33 yards. Boland gained two yards on one kick off return while Cade Hudyma had a seven yard return.

The Scotties put up 110 total yards of offense – 81 yards passing and 29 rushing. The went 1-for-9 on third downs and 2-for-2 on 4th downs.

Gamas went 8-for-20 on passes with two interceptions. He gained 4.05 yards per attempt. He also led the team in rushing yards, gaining 24 yards on four carries. Chapman advanced the Scotties seven yards on seven carries while Sugg lost two yards on four carries.

Babb had three receptions for 59 yards gain. Strommen gained 15 yards on two catches and Cade Hudyma added six yards on one reception. Sugg gained a yard on two catches.

"Amazing game to have this early in the year. Manhattan is a top team in the state and our guys know we can hang with them. We hope we get them again in the playoffs, but for now our focus turns to Malta. Going to be another great game, look for some tweaks on offense to get us back on track," Tedrow said.

The JV team ran away with their game Sept. 16 against Sidney, defeating the Eagles 54-14. The JV Scotteis were in Culbertson Sept. 23 but the score was unavailable at press time. Glasgow hosts Havre for JV action Monday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m.

Glasgow travels to Malta Friday, Sept. 27, to take on the Mustangs at 7 p.m.
