Scottie XC Girls Take Second in Havre

Boys Place Fourth

The Glasgow Scotties girls cross country team scored 42 points at the Havre Invitational Sept. 14 for second place while the boys team placed fourth with 81 points.

“We didn’t have the breakout week I was hoping for on Saturday in Havre, but I still saw many of our kids compete very well!

“The girls finished second, just 4 points behind Havre, and 10 points ahead of Poplar. So team-wise, we hit the goal of finishing ahead of the Poplar girls! Coach Wetsit has very quickly developed both good boys and girls squads, so we should have some more great battles this year!,” said Head Coach Tim Phillips. “Our boys finished fourth: Poplar won with 56 points, followed by Harlem with 63, Fairfield-Choteau 69, and we were next with 81 points.”

Haleigh Huntsman led the Scottie girls with a seventh place finish out of 53 runners. She finished the course in 22:55.8. Kheyerah Bilger also broke the top 10, running a 23:11.7 for ninth place. Kimber Dulaney took 11th place at 23:25.8, 2:25 faster than last year’s time in Havre. Riley Evenson-Glasoe and Jensina Tweten took 17th and 18th, respectively. Evenson-Glasoe ran a 24:03.7 and Tweten had a 24:10.0 time, her best of the season by 6 seconds. Josie Kemp ran a 27:04.8 for 36th place and Mary Dykema finished in 46th at 28:52.5, dropping 41 seconds from her previous best time this season.

“Both squads are fighting some nagging injuries. But some of them really battled through that to run well. The girls really competed the last third of the race. Haleigh battled hard with a Poplar girl, while Kimber passed at least 5 or 6 in the last 400 meters of the race. I also thought they all got out a little more aggressively at the beginning, so I was happy with that,” Phillips said.

Kyler Holinde took fifth place out of 68 runners at 17:58.5 to lead the Scottie boys. Ted See ran a 20:14.2 for 18th place followed by Rowen Kloker in 19th at 20:20.7. Kloker turned in his best time of the season by 3 seconds and dropped 32 seconds from last year’s meet in Havre. Garrett Thompson dropped one second off his previous best with a time of 20:22.7 to finish in 21st place. Adam Mickelson ran a 20:35.3 for 25th place and Owen Thompson took 42nd with a 21:54.7 time.

Phillips said, “For the boys, we had a great pack again, but need to move that group up. Poplar put 6 boys ahead of our second, and Harlem had 4 ahead of our second runner. There’s not a huge time gap there, but we’ll need to do a lot better at getting in front of some of their runners to be competitive.”

Timothy Pearson led the boys JV team, knocking 1:33 off his time from last year’s meet. He ran a 21:20.7 to take third place out of 18 racers. Jack Miller took fifth at 22:23.3 and Gage Larsen ran a 23:11.7 for eighth place. Aaron Mickelson finished in 13th with a 25:11.7 time.

Glasgow’s cross country teams have the weekend off for Homecoming but return to action twice the following week. The Scotties will compete at the 54th Annual Frazer Invitational Thursday, Sept. 26, and the Mountain West Classic in Missoula Saturday, Sept. 28.
