Glasgow Defeats Malta and Harlem
The Scottie volleyball team notched two conference wins this past week with victories over Malta and Harlem. Malta took Glasgow to five sets and extra points, but the Scotties earned the win in front of the home crowd Sept. 12. The following day, Glasgow downed Harlem in three sets on the road.
Glasgow lost their first game against Malta, 19-25, but recovered with a 25-20 set. Malta pushed back in the third game but Glasgow won by three, 25-22. The Scotties dropped the fourth set in a close battle, 23-25. In the fifth and deciding game, Glasgow and Malta battled beyond the final 15 point scored to a 19-17 Glasgow win.
The Scotties put up 11 aces, 56 kills, 38 assists, six blocks and 124 digs. The M-ettes registered 13 aces, 36 kills, 31 assists, 13 blocks and 109 digs.
Gina Page and Hayden Green both had three aces in leading Glasgow. Joely Chappell and Mayzie Yoakam notched 17 kills a piece while Macy Martin had 34 assists for the Scotties. Halle Hunter blocked four Malta shots and Chappell had 26 of the team's digs.
The Scottie JV team lost in five games, 25-19, 25-19, 9-15, 11-15, 11-15 and the C squad won in four, 20-25, 25-16, 15-10, 15-6.
The following night on the road the Scotties easily took the first set, 25-12. The Wildcats battled back a bit more but lost to Glasgow 25-17 in the second set. Glasgow staved off a fourth game with a 25-21 win in the third set to win the match.
Glasgow put 13 aces, 29 kills, 25 assists, seven blocks and 57 digs on the stats sheet while Harlem had nine aces, 10 kills, nine assists, six blocks and 42 digs.
Hunter led in aces with four. Yoakam had 10 kills. Martin notched 24 of the team's assists while Green knocked down four Harlem shots. Chappell led Glasgow in digs again with 16 in the match.
Glagsow's JV team won in three games also, 25-19, 25-14, 15-10 and the C squad lost in four sets, 24-26, 12-25, 15-9, 4-15.
Glasgow hosts the Poplar Indians Thursday, Sept. 19, for JV and Varsity matches beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Sidney Eagles will be in Glasgow Saturday, Sept. 21, for C, JV and Varsity play starting at 1 p.m.
