Carry 3-0 Record Into Homecoming
The Glasgow Scottie football team extended their win streak to three this past week with a 20-13 road win over Columbus. Glasgow holds a 3-0 record heading into Homecoming against Manhattan this weekend.
Quarterback Khye Gamas started the scoring action early in the second quarter with a 49 yard run to take a 6-0 lead over the Cougars. The Scotties doubled their score 5 minutes later on another Gamas run from 14 yards out. Columbus lit up their side of the scoreboard just before halftime to give Glasgow a 12-7 lead heading into the second half.
Columbus scored again in the second half for a 13-12 lead. Glasgow secured the win in the fourth on a quarterback sneak, sending Gamas 1 yard into the end zone. He also carried the ball 12 yards on the two-point attempt to make the score 20-13.
The Scotties put up 324 net yards, 325 total yards, with 70 yards passing and 255 yards rushing. Glasgow went 4-for-9 on third downs and 0-for-2 on fourth downs while going 2-for-2 in the red zone.
Gamas went 10-for-15 on passes, a 67 completion rate, with a 4.7 yard gain average. He threw one interception.
Wyatt Sugg led the Scotties in rushing, carrying the pigskin 13 times for 152 yards, 11.7 yards per carry. Gamas had nine carries for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Liam Chapman added 19 yards on 10 carries.
Will Kirkland led in receiving with one catch for a 21 yard gain. Sugg added 13 yards on two catches followed by Chapman with nine yards, also on two receptions. Wyatt Babb had two catches for seven yards while Cade Hudyma and Nick Solorzano both added seven yards on a single catch each. Kade Strommen had one reception for six yards.
Glasgow’s defense gave up 210 yards to Columbus on 15-of-31 passing and 23 rushing attempts. Columbus gained an average of 12.06 yards on each pass and just 1.26 on each rushing attempt.
Coy Nelson powered the D-line with eight total tackles: six unassisted, one assisted and one for loss. Sugg had six unassisted and one tackle for loss. Jaydeen Hanshew racked up two unassisted, three assisted and one tackle for loss with a pass break up and two hurries. Tavin Boland notched five unassisted tackles. Connor Hudyma put three unassisted and two assisted tackles in the books while Kirkland added four assisted tackle, a tackle for loss and three hurries.
Strommen had four unassisted tackles with a PBU. Gamas added three unassisted tackles while Cash Stulc put up two unassisted and one assisted tackles. Cade Hudyma added one assisted and two unassisted tackles with a PBU. Myles Yoakam and Solorzano both had two unassisted tackles with Yoakam adding a PBU and a hurry to the stats sheet. Dillon Hughes put up an unassisted and an assisted tackle. Andrew Linder had one unassisted tackle and Michael King had one assisted tackle. Grady Nielsen had a PBU and a hurry.
Rex Monson had three kickoffs for 33, 21 and 20 yards while Jose Ramon Osuna Lopez had one for eight yards. Babb had a 36 yard punt and Gamas had two for 24 and 34 yards. Chapman had one kick off return for 12 yards while Boland gained 9 and 12 yards on two punt returns.
Glasgow hosts the Manhattan Tigers Friday, Sept. 20, for Homecoming with kick off scheduled for 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the Independence Bank tailgate party.
