Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Richard "Dick" Alvin Miller was born in Glasgow, Mont., on Aug. 13, 1939, to
Julian and Evelyn (Green) Miller. He was raised here with four sisters and brothers.
Richard passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, peacefully in his sleep at his home with his daughter and son.
After graduating in 1957, Dick joined the Army Reserves. In February of 1960 he married the love of his life, Jo Ann Shuman. Together, they were blessed with three children: Rick, Darla, and Dan.
Richard was a major sports fan. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings and the Glasgow Scotties. He enjoyed watching his kids' sporting events and coached Little League for many years. Richard also coached youth basketball at St. Raphael's Church. His passion for sports only grew as he was able to watch and support his grandchildren's games as well.
Richard loved and supported his family and community his whole life. He retired from the Montana Aviation Research Company in 2002. Richard was a jack of all trades. He would and could fix anything. His hobbies were building and flying model airplanes. He enjoyed doing yard work, playing cards and always found time to "tinker" and fix things.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann; and son Rick.
Dick is survived by his sister, Jean Marie Wood; his daughter, Darla (Gregg) Russell; and his son, Dan (Joyce) Miller. Papa Dick is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeff Grewe, Ryan (Aracely) Smith, Mandi (Leo) Bakeberg, Sarah Miller, Parker (Alacia) Miller, Mason Miller and Peri Russell; and five great-grandchildren, Leo, Laynee, and Kodi Bakeberg and Seamus and Shyla Smith.
Richard's burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, Glasgow, at a later date.
