Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Roger B. Galland

Roger B. Galland, 71, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, at Northern Montana Hospital, Havre, Mont.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Havre, with Deacon Tim Maroney officiating.

Roger's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to the Jamie Young Memorial Foundation, PO Box 685, Havre, MT 59501.

Roger was born on July 14, 1953, in Plentywood, Mont., to Robert and Barbara "Jackie" (Larson) Galland. He was raised on the family farm outside Outlook, Mont., and graduated from Outlook High School.

After graduation, Roger attended college in Glendive, Mont., majoring in criminal justice. In 1974, he signed on with Burlington Northern in Laurel, Mont., and spent the next several years moving around for work. Roger landed in Dickinson, N.D., where he met Marjorie Wanner. The couple married in 1979, and they had two sons.

The family moved to Glasgow, Mont., in 1985, and then to Havre in 2003, where they remained. Margie, the love of Roger's life, passed away in 2009, and he retired in 2014. After retirement, he spent time building a home to replace the farmhouse that had been destroyed by fire.

Roger was a jovial, social man who enjoyed storytelling and sharing photos from years gone by. He adored his wife and sons, and when his granddaughter came along, he was thrilled. Collecting firearms and guitars was his guilty pleasure, and he loved to listen to 70's rock and country while on the road. His favorite band of all time was the Eagles. His co-workers knew he was the ultimate problem solver, and he put those skills to use in making sausage. Roger also really enjoyed guiding friends on hunts on his family's property.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Galland; father Robert Galland; brother Bobby Galland; and in-laws Maynard Huschka, Mark Endelicato, Tony Praus, and Joe Wanner.

Roger is survived by his sons, Sam (Whitney) Galland, of Glasgow, and Mitch (Renessa) Galland, of Havre; granddaughter Vivian Galland; mother Barbara "Jackie" Galland, of Outlook; sisters Sammie (Steve) Hurtig, of Shelby, Mont., and LaVonne (Carl) Johnson, of Butte, Mont .; in-laws Rosie Huschka of Billings, Mont., Viola (Ken) Rech, of Minnesota, Shirley Endelicato, of Iowa, and Eleanor Praus, Pat (Art) Hensel, Ken (Pam) Wanner, Jackie (Robert) Kinzel, Renae Wanner, and Millie (Craig Steve) Wagner, all of North Dakota; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roger's family would like to extend a special thanks to his niece Tracey (Jaime) Aguilar and their family for their loving care and support of Roger during his treatments.
