Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
A new international partnership between Montana’s Missouri River Country and Canada’s South Saskatchewan Ready labeled “Beyond the 49th Parallel” is encouraging travelers to branch out from their home country to explore the neighboring small towns, historic sites and opportunities for outdoor recreation found across the border.
“Pairing Canada’s South Saskatchewan and Montana’s Missouri River Country provides an international travel experience like no other,” said Carla Hunsley, executive director of Missouri River Country. “Here, travelers can enjoy prime recreation spots and explore a variety of attractions and attend festivals, rodeos and fairs that bring visitors and our welcoming small-town residents together.”
The Beyond the 49th Parallel partnership includes a new website, complete with travel inspiration, detailed itineraries and international travel support to help travelers plan a two-nation vacation to Missouri River Country and South Saskatchewan.
Highlights from the travel itineraries include visiting historic points of interest and local golf courses. The content also provides detailed recommendations for food, lodging and event information to help travelers maximize their trip to each region. Both regions are known for having rich histories, scenic prairies, welcoming small towns and opportunities for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities.
A sample trip featured in the program includes starting in Coronach, Saskatchewan, for the Old Coronach Street Festival, heading south to Fort Peck, Mont., to watch a play at the historic Fort Peck Summer Theatre and then playing a round of disc golf at The Fortress, located near Fort Peck Dam.
“Our relationship with Northeast Montana is a historic one that spans more than 100 years,” said Sharon Adam, chair of South Saskatchewan Ready. “Families and farming have been intertwined for generations, and many businesses on both sides of the international border conduct business daily. It makes sense for us to work together because of our combined interests, similarities and shared history.”
