Glasgow Downtown Parking Project To Begin

The City of Glasgow has decided to return part of the downtown parking to angle-in parking. Angle parking will be implemented on the south side of 2nd Ave. S., and the east side of 3rd St. S. The other side of the street will remain parallel parking.

During a pre-construction meeting on Sept. 5, it was stated the project is expected to start Monday, Sept. 9, between The Loaded Toad and the Wheatgrass Art Gallery for the handicap access ramp. The project did start as expected with most of the work starting in front of the Loaded Toad. This part of the project is expected to take three to four days.

It's expected on Sunday, Sept. 15, part of 2nd Ave. S., will be closed to perform the striping for diagonal parking, The hope is to complete the striping in one day.

Angle parking will be implemented on the south side of 2nd Ave. S., and the east side of 3rd St. S., while the other side of the street will remain parallel parking.

This project will increase available parking downtown by 20 to 30 percent. The plan also includes a mid block van-accessible handicap parking space between 6th S. S. and 5th St. S., and the ADA ramp.

As a result of the changes in parking, there will be additional signage and parking enforcement once the project is completed.Maintaining the streets will be different, so there will also be additional overnight parking restrictions to allow crews the opportunity to do snow removal, sweeping and other street maintenance.

According to City Council meeting minutes from the July 1 meeting, the project was awarded to LSC, Inc., in the amount of $27,850.80. The diagonal parking portion is $12,228, which includes concrete work, pavement striping, handicapped pavement markings and signage. The miscellaneous concrete work around the city will cost $15,622. However, the actual cost of the downtown project is now expected to be $22,599.73, which includes funds for additional sidewalk and gutter work outside of the angle-in parking project. It has also been stated that the contractor will do their best to not damage any trees during the construction of the ramp.
