"Always great to start the season with a solid win. Have to credit our O-line in this one. We were able to control the line of scrimmage from the get-go, which enabled us to dictate how we wanted to call the offense each drive," Assistant Coach and offensive coordinator Sam Tedrow told the Courier. "Coy [Nelson] and Hughes-ey [Dillon Hughes] switched positions to O-line this fall and really answered the call in game one."

Defensively, the Scotties allowed only 161 yards from Shepherd, 110 yards on 25 rushing attempts and 51 yards on 3-of-11 passes.

Connor Hudyma led the defensive line with six total tackles, five unassisted, followed by Michael King with five tackles, all unassisted. Jaydeen Hanshew and Sugg both had four total tackles with Sugg notching a tackle for loss. While Kirkland and Stulc added three each. Chapman, Tavin Boland, Cody Kuka, Graham and Jacob Potter notched two tackles a piece while Eli Howland had one takedown.

Andrew Linder had a sack while Connor Hudyma and Potter both forced a fumble. Monson and Sugg each had a fumble recovery. Boland and Cade Hudyma broke up a pass with Monson notching an interception and a touchdown.

On special teams, Babb had two punts for 45 and 46 yards. Kirkland had a 15-yard kick off return while Chapman ran 26 yards on his return. Boland had one botched punt return, a 22-yard return and a 75-yard return for a touchdown. Monson went 3-for-8 on the PAT.

"We are far from where we want to be, but I am really excited to see what kind of growth this offense has over the course of the season," Tedrow added. "These kids are excited to get back to work this week and continue building the momentum against Huntley Project for their home opener."

The Scotties host the Huntley Project Red Devils Friday, Sept. 6, for a 7 p.m. kick off.
