As students, families and staff get ready for the first day of school on Aug. 19, the Glasgow School Board met in regular session on Aug. 14 in the Gary F. Martin Boardroom.

The board discussed the budget for the school year and approved the general fund budget of $6,949,480.40 with a total budget of $9,709,245.41, which includes all other budget items such transportation and retirement.

A contract with Jennifer Buchmann-Cunningham was approved to provide school psychology services within the district at $85 per hour for the 2024-2025 school year. School district bus routes were also approved along with requests from Hinsdale and Lustre School Districts to enter the school district with a bus to pick up students.

The personnel action report was also approved with the following new hires made:

Jenna Marsalek and Carin Barnett were hired as Glasgow High School prep cooks

Kathy Smith is hired as an accompanist (four periods/day).

Jessica Gustin, Marissa Wagoner, and Tony Marsalek were hired as substitutes.

Michael Kelsey, Jason Thibault, Jeremy Radakovich, and Rachael Pattison were hired as coaches. Matt Bacon hired as STUCO assistant advisor, and Sam Tedrow hired as G Club advisor.

Michelle Huntsman is transferred from volunteer Cross Country coach to an assistant GMS Cross Country coach.

Tabitha Brandt is transferred from substitute to Irle Satellite Cook.

Nate Doornek was transferred from Grade five teacher to Irle Health Enhancement Teacher

Darron Lee has resigned his position as Irle satellite cook.

Byron Hallock has resigned his position as Irle Health Enhancement Teacher

Will Larsen has resigned his position as Grade 8 boys basketball coach

The Office of Public Instruction sets minimum recommended prices for adult meals. In July, the adult breakfast price was increased to $3, but the lunch price had not been released yet. It recommended that the adult lunch price be increased to $5, which the school board approved to be in effect starting with this school year, 2024-2025.

The board also passed a resolution approving the disposal of obsolete property/equipment of the district prior to selling or disposing of it. The possible revenue from the sale will be deposited into the Building Fund. For further information on the surplus sale, see page 9.

Superintendent Flaten also reported that Irle and Glasgow Middle School received perfect scores in the accreditation process while Glasgow High School is under “advice” for a lack of evidence in three specific areas, two in Indian Education and one in College & Career readiness. “We are doing these successfully, just need to make sure the evidence is correctly submitted next cycle,” stated Superintendent Flaten in his report. “When the window for ‘corrective action’ opens we will submit our evidence. Being under ‘advice’ for a singular year does not affect accreditation or funding in any way.

The next regular scheduled School Board meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 11, 6 p.m., in the Gary F. Martin Boardroom, 229 7th St. N., Glasgow.

All school board meetings are audio and video recorded. The recording can be found on the District website, http://www.glasgow.k12.mt.us/page/school-board.
