Glasgow Thunder Swim Team Takes State By Storm

The GKST did the most with the least: for the second straight year, the team brought home the State Swim trophy despite not having a pool in Glasgow. The Thunder moved up from Class C last year to Class B this season as a result of the points they earned at the Divisional Meet in Glendive.

“We swam great this weekend. Almost every swim came with a best time for every swimmer,” Head Coach Ethan Shrader said. “I am so proud of the swimmers for how hard they have worked to get to this point. We had great races.”

In four years, Shrader has coached his Thunder now to two State Titles. The Thunder brought home eight individual and four relay team medals from the State Meet.

“Kimber Dulaney swam for a second place in the 100 back swimming her best time of 1:19.53. Abbey Kulczyk swam her best 50 butterfly with a 32.90 and snuck into second place,” Shrader said. “It is hard to pick out an individual stand out, because we all swam so well this weekend.”

Dulaney also placed second in the girls 15-19 400 freestyle while Kulczyk earned a second in the Girls 15-19 100 butterfly.

Haleigh Huntsman placed third in the girls 13-14 200 IM. Jack Miller took third in the boys 13-14 50 freestyle and Molly Miller took third in the girls 9-10 breaststroke. Wade Fuhrman swam to third in the boys 11-12 50 backstroke.

The Mixed 9-10 relay team of Kila Tatafu, Snow Saiz, Will Fuhrman and Knoxsen Harris placed second in the 100 free relay while M. Miller, Saiz, Will Fuhrman and Harris swam to second in the Mixed 9-10 100 medley relay.

Huntsman, Finley Tatafu, Holt Hutnsman and Jack Miller took second in the Mixed 13-14 200 free relay. Haleigh Huntsman, Paxton Wesen, Holt Huntsman and F. Tatafu also earned third in the Mixed 13-14 200 medley relay.

Whitney Tatafu told the Courier, “Nearly every swimmer posted points to help the team secure the state championship trophy. This truly was a joint effort from all of the swimmers ages four to 17 of this 20-person state team.”

Coach Shrader concluded, “I am very proud of my team. We took first place in the B conference.”

GKST looks to return all swimmers next year and to grow their successful program at home in a new pool.
