Temperatures were 103-106 degrees in Lustre on July 22, and hit 100 or more every day, coming down to 90 degrees on Thursday evening, and 75 degrees by Friday. What a welcome relief! July 31, it is 95 degrees and fields are ripe as the pea harvest is in progress.

We extend our condolences to the Bill Johnson family of Circle, and the Haber families in the passing of Marian (Haber) Johnson on July 9, 2024. Marian was one of 12 students to graduate from LCHS in the class of 1965.

Lustre Christian High School was a beehive of activity on July 29 as students, alumni, board members and their families and volunteers from churches cleaned the school, and prepared the other buildings for use in the coming school year. The first day of school is Aug. 21, with the school opening program the evening of Aug. 25. The first day of Volleyball practice is Friday, Aug. 16. The entire school calendar is available from Principal Bob Burkhard and should already be in the hands of upperclassmen. The freshman class will be large as 14 students graduated from LGS and will be coming to LCHS.

The Lustre Grade School begins classes on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Jeanne Matthyser is the new Supervising Teacher, as Mr. John DuBose has moved to Great Falls to be Superintendent at Great Falls Central. Mrs. Matthyser stated, “Our family absolutely loves it here and I am excited to continue being part of this team!” She introduces the teachers as follows: kindergarten - second grade teacher is Mrs. Maryke Nell. “She is new to Lustre, originally from South Africa. She is married with two boys.” Grades third – fourth will be taught by Mr. Prince Agbisit. “He will be going into his third year teaching at LGS and is originally from the Philippines.” The fifth-sixth grade teacher, “Ms. Ligia Earley is also going into her third year here at Lustre and is a proud American.” Mr. Edmond Malihan will be the new seventh – eighth grade teacher. “He is new to Lustre, originally from the Philippines.” “Here at LGS, we are looking forward to welcoming seven new kindergarteners and two new friends from South Africa. Our team is determined to make this another great year for the LGS family.”
