Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Letter From The Nashua Superintendent

As a proud product of the Nashua community, I am thrilled to take on the role of superintendent. My formative years in Nashua and professional journey within the Nashua School District have deeply rooted me in the school and community. This personal connection fuels my dedication to fostering a strong and positive school culture.

For several weeks, I have diligently worked on the many tasks that befall a superintendent. One of the most challenging has been filling the staff vacancies. I am pleased to report that all vacancies have been filled with licensed teachers. The kindergarten, junior high, and English positions are full-time. Mr. Garcia, currently the art teacher with a science degree, has agreed to also teach high school science classes. We have contracted with two individuals to be the IEP case managers for the SPED program and with an individual for academic advisement.

They are all licensed and will be on a hybrid schedule of in-person and telework. We will continue to advertise our SPED position as the ultimate goal is to fill it with a full-time in-house person. The district belongs to CO-OPs that provide licensed speech, school psychology, guidance, and library services. We also have an onsite guidance facilitator in the building twice a week. In addition to P.E. Mrs. Edwards is teaching JMG, and Mr. Fromdahl has added a career technical course. I am currently working with the Montana Digital Academy to offer dual credit and advanced placement courses and more career technical course options to prepare our students to continue their education or enter the workforce.

Our small class sizes and dedicated staff at Nashua allow our students to develop close relationships with the staff and their peers. The entire staff at Nashua, who are deeply committed to our students’ education, is involved in their learning journey. This advantage provides a more supportive and personalized learning environment, ensuring we understand students’ needs better and can tailor support for their academic, social, and emotional growth.

Sports physicals are available at the school at no charge on July 30, Aug. 1, and 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our first grade teacher, Mrs. Gorman, was instrumental in connecting us with Nurse practitioner Frances Cook to provide this service for our students. The physical forms need to be signed by parents prior to the physical.

Students in grades 10-12 may register for classes at the school on the evening of Aug. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. This is a crucial step in shaping your academic journey, and we look forward to your active participation. Everyone is encouraged to attend the back-to-school open house on Aug. 13, from 5 to 6 p.m., with a barbeque to follow. This event is an excellent opportunity to meet your teachers, reconnect with classmates, and get a feel for the exciting year ahead. Your presence will make this event even more special. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 14.

If our small school community is a good fit for your child, please get in touch with the school at 406-746-3411 or email me at [email protected].

Warm regards,

Susan Hoyer, Superintendent Nashua Public Schools
