Back to School Letter From Superintendent Flaten

Hello Glasgow and surrounding communities!  It has been a pleasure working for all of you as your athletic director over the past 10 years and I am ready for the challenge of leading our schools as your new District Superintendent. I am ready to make a difference and help our public school system continue to thrive. My belief is that we should all live life with a goal-setting mentality. My goals remain high. Our plan is for the Glasgow School District to be the very best in the State of Montana.

As we kick off the month of August it is time to get geared up for another year! I want to personally invite everyone of you to become a part of our Glasgow Public School family. To put it as simply as I can; We want you, we need you!  If you have a school aged-child I want you to have all of the information you may need to make an informed decision and for your family to ultimately decide that our schools are the best place to educate your child.

The Glasgow School District employs 250 people. This includes our dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, food service, custodial, transportation, activities/athletics, secretarial, game workers, sports officials, administration, volunteers, and substitute staff. This community is so fortunate to have this dynamic team working on behalf of our youth. Incredibly, we have only ONE open position left to fill as this letter goes to print. We can always use more substitutes in ALL areas, but compare our available positions to those in other small communities throughout northern and eastern Montana and it’s obvious that we are very fortunate to live where we do.

Did you know that 41 out of our 62 certified teachers have their Master’s Degree? This speaks to how highly qualified our staff is and the high-level of education your child will be provided throughout their entire educational experience in the Glasgow public school system. Because our teaching staff has taken the initiative to further each of their individual educations, we are able to offer dual-credit opportunities to our high school-aged students that other school districts are not capable of providing. We currently offer 12 Dual-Credit classes at GHS! These 12 classes are spread evenly throughout five core areas of instruction; English, math, science, history and business. Any one of our outgoing students can now graduate with over 36 college credits before they ever step foot on a college campus. That is over one year of free higher education. Simply incredible.

Communication will be a major priority coming from my office! Our school website has been a focus area this summer and is now one of the very best you will find in the state. Please download our Glasgow Public Schools App on either Apple iTunes or Google Play and set yourself up for push notifications to stay up-to-date on all of our key happenings throughout the district.

You can also expect a strong presence on social media including Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn. “Like” and “Follow” the various pages of your preference to get the most up to date information.

Our building principals will be back in their offices by the first of August and our schools will officially open to the general public on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Teachers report on Aug. 14, high school fall sports begin Friday, Aug. 16, and students officially begin on Monday, Aug. 19!

Let’s make the 2024-25 school year the BEST one yet.

Brenner Flaten
