Reds Close Out Regular Season

Head To District With 14-21 Record

The Glasgow Reds defeated the Glendive Blue Devils but fell to the Laurel Dodgers and the Miles City Mavericks in their final week of the regular season. Glasgow holds a 14-21 record heading into the postseason this week at the District Tournament in Glendive.

The Reds downed the Blue Devils, 10-9 and 3-2, at home July 17. They fell July 19 by 15-8 and 8-7 scores against the Dodgers in Glasgow. In Miles City, Glasgow lost 14-13 and 9-2 to the Mavericks.

Glasgow went 10 innings against Glendive in game one on July 17, winning in a walkoff. Glasgow scored once in the first before the Blue Devils tied it in the third. The Reds answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Glendive tied it with two runs in the top of the fourth but Glasgow sent four runners home in the bottom of the fifth.

The Blue Devils scored four of their own in the seventh and kept Glasgow off the board to send the game into extra innings. Glendive scored once in the ninth but Glasgow tied the game again in the bottom of the inning to keep the action going. The Blue Devils sent a runner home in the 10th but the Reds answered with a Riley Smith ground ball to send Khye Gamas and Jack Kolstad home for the win.

Glasgow racked up 14 hits to Glendive's 12 and held their errors to two while the visitors had five.

Smith led the Reds with three hits and three RBIs. Gamas connected three times while Wyatt Sugg had two hits and an RBI. Brody Hansen added a hit and two RBIs and Kolstad had one hit and one RBI. Mason Hunter, Connor Hudyma, Cade Hudyma and Griffin Azure had a hit each.

Gamas, Smith, Connor Hudyma, Sugg, Cade Hudyma and Kolstad all crossed home plate. Gamas led in stolen bases with three followed by Sugg with two, and Azure and Smith with one each.

Gamas went three and two-thirds innings in his start on the mound, throwing four strikeouts while giving up seven hits and three runs, two earned. Smith threw six strikeouts and gave up three hits and four runs, two earned, in three and two-thirds innings in relief. Hansen pitched two and two-thirds innings, throwing two strikeouts while allowing two hits and two earned runs.

Glendive scored first in the second game, lighting up the scoreboard once in the first. Glasgow tied it in the third before the Blue Devils took a one-run lead in the next inning. But the Reds tied the game again in the bottom of the inning and added one more in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Glasgow had three hits and Gledive connected five times. Both teams turned in a clean game.

Hunter led with one hit and one RBI. Smith and Connor Hudyma both had a single hit. Kolstad had three stolen bases to lead the team, followed by C. Hudyma and Sugg with two, and Smith, Hunter and Cody Kuka with one a piece. Kolstad, Smith and Owen Hopstad scored for Glasgow.

Cade Hudyma pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with four strikeouts. Hunter pitched one inning in relief.

Laurel won their first game in Glasgow July 19 with a nine-run showing in the fifth. Glasgow held a lead after scoring once in the second and twice in the third while holding the Dodgers to a run in the third and fourth. The Dodgers exploded in the fifth but Glasgow responded with two runs. Laurel cemented the win with four runs in the seventh before holding the Reds to three.

Glasgow had eight hits but the visitors had 15. Both teams committed four errors.

Hunter notched two hits with four RBIs and Smith had two hits with one RBI. Gamas, Hansen and Connor Hudyma had a hit each and Aiden Price had one RBI. Gamas, Hansen, Smith, Connor Hudyma and Kolstad scored for the Reds. Smith had two stolen bases while Gamas and Hunter had one each.

Kuka started the game on the mound for Glasgow, throwing four innings and allowing five earned runs and five hits. Connor Hudyma allowed six earned runs and six hits in relief while Hopstad gave up four earned runs and four hits.

Glasgow played the Dodgers much closer in the second game, taking the game to eight innings. Laurel scored twice in the first and followed it with a run in the third and the fourth innings. The Reds came out strong in the fourth with four runs and built on the lead with three more in the fifth. Laurel responded with three runs in the sixth to tie the game. The Dodgers scored once in the eighth and kept the Reds off the board to eke out the win.

Laurel had 12 hits and one error while Glasgow had 11 hits and three errors.

Smith led Glasgow with two hits and two RBIs. Connor Hudyma and Price added a hit and an RBI each. Hansen and Sugg connected twice while Azure, Cade Hudyma and Kolstad added a hit each. Azure, Smith, Hansen, Connor Hudyma and Sugg all scored. Hansen and Smith stole a base each.

Hunter started on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, over one inning. Hansen gave up five hits and one run with two strikeouts oer three innings. Sugg gave up four hits and two runs, one earned, over three innings. Kolstad allowed three runs in one inning on the mound.

Glasgow closed out the season with a pair of road games against the Mavericks. The Reds came out strong in game one, scoring nine times in the first. The Mavericks sent three runners home in the second and scored once in the third. Glasgow scored twice in the both the fourth and fifth, but the Mavericks put up four runs in both of the same inning to cut the Reds lead to one. Miles City won the game in the bottom of the seventh with two runs.

The Reds had five errors and 11 hits while Miles City put up 13 hits and two errors.

Kolstad had two hits and three RBIs while Azure put up two hits and two RBIs. Kuka connected three times with one RBI. Gamas notched two hits and an RBI. Connor Hudyma had two hits while Smith, Sugg, Cade Hudyma and Tayven Bietz added an RBI a piece.

Gamas, Hansen, Smith, Connor Hudyma, Sugg, Cade Hudyma, Azure, Kuka and Kolstad all scored for Glasgow. Gamas, Sugg, Azure, Smith and Kuka each added a stolen base to the stats.

Price started on the mound, going four innings with one strikeout. He allowed 11 hits and nine runs, eight earned. Connor Hudyma pitched two innings, throwing one strikeout while allowing one hit and two runs, one earned. Kolstad gave up one run and three earned runs.

The Reds fell behind early in game two as the Mavericks scored twice in the second, four times in the third and thrice in the sixth. Glasgow got on the board with two runs in the seventh.

Glasgow was outhit 6-4 and committed four errors while Miles City had one.

Hansen led the Reds with two hits and one RBI. Gamas and Bietz both connected at bad and Kuka added an RBI to the game. Hansen and Kolstad scored while Hansen and Kuka each stole one base.

Braxton Potter gave up two hits and five earned runs in two and a third innings in his start for Glasgow. Grimes allowed three hits and four runs, one earned, with one strikeout in relief over three innings. Azure gave up one hit over two-thirds of an inning on the mound.

Glasgow will attend the 2024 East A District Tournament in Glendive, Thursday through Sunday, July 25-28. The Reds are expected to open the tournament Thursday at 1 p.m. against the Miles City Mavericks.
