Valley County Students Claim Victorious During Fire Truck Pull At Alive At Five

Another Successful Event For Downtown

It was a beautiful day to come out and support local businesses on July 17 for the second Alive at Five event of the year. Organized by the Glasgow Downtown Association and implemented with the help of a number of volunteers, Elle Boutique hosted this month's event with music provided by Sideways and food available by Miki's Food Truck, out of Terry, Mont.

This month's event saw Glasgow High School students battle against students from the surrounding Valley County schools to see who could pull a fire truck 75 feet the fastest.. The Glasgow team went 4 minutes and 15 seconds while the Valley County team went two minutes and four seconds. The students in the Valley County team will move on to the championship round during the Sept. 18, event. So far they will be competing against the Valley County Fire Departments and the winner of the August event, which will see employees from Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital battle against Glasgow Chamber members.

Those in attendance of the event did not leave empty handed due to generous donations from local businesses including, Elle Boutique, United Insurance & Realty, Toodie's Cafe, Prairie House Gardens and Reynolds-Glasgow. Taking home prizes were Judy Hagenau, Jen Jackson and Tanya Renner, while Kevin Taylor and Nicole Burleigh each took home two prizes. A 50/50 raffle was also drawn where Laurie Stromer won $220, with her name handpicked by some great young helpers.

In addition to hosting, Elle Boutique also gave back to the community, by donating $250 to Slash The Stigma, which is an annual hockey tournament in honor of Devon Thompson. The tournament is hosted by the Thompson family, with support from the community and the Valley C.A.R.E. Coalition as a way to bring mental health into the forefront of all conversations. Elle Boutique was recently awarded a backing small business grant this year and decided to put some of the funds back into the community.

Mark your calendars as the August Alive at Five will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, in front of Lomasi Boutique, Revive Beauty Bar, Hair by Danika, and Sugg Clinic, all on 3rd St. South. Live music will be provided by Mars Daniels and food will be available for purchase by Toodie's Cafe & Gallery.

The Alive at Five events are sponsored by the Glasgow Downtown Association and run from 5 to 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. The fire truck pull competition will start at 7 p.m.
