Calling all Glasgow area artists! If you have an ongoing practice of art creation and are dreaming of taking the next step to turn your art into a full-fledged business, the Montana Arts Council invites applications for its upcoming Montana Artrepreneur Program (MAP) course.

With a mission to help artists build sustainable lives in the arts, MAP is an intensive professional development opportunity which has trained more than 500 artists statewide. MAP provides practical coursework covering 35 pragmatic, professional practice tools of art and business following a general outline of discovering, showing, telling, and funding each artist’s story.

Affirming the title of “Artist” as a credible profession and demystifying the world of business, the Montana Artrepreneur Program (MAP) is an art-centered business development program, taught by working artists and open to artists of all disciplines, comprising

• Over 40 hours of college-level instruction

• First-hand experience with 35 practical business tools

• 1:1 support of a MAP coach, during and following program workshops

• A mentorship opportunity with an artist of each participant’s choosing

At the program’s heart is the philosophy that a sustainable career in the arts is attainable by advancing one’s proficiency in a chosen medium, strategic development of an artist’s patron network, confidently articulating the artist’s story and purpose as an artist and understanding and proactively engaging in the arts community. It’s an approach which has led the MAP program to receive national recognition for its success in helping artists advance their careers.

MAP’s Glasgow course, led by Tess Fahlgren and open to artists of all disciplines, is scheduled to take place on Aug/ 23-24, Sept. 20-21, Oct. 11-12, Nov. 8-9 with interim sessions (in person or via zoom) on Sept. 5, Thursday, Oct. 3, and Tuesday, Oct. 29, all at 6:30 p.m. A $500 fee is charged to participating artists, representing 20 percent of the overall cost of the program with the remaining 80 percent provided by the Montana Arts Council.
