Glasgow Reds Take Third In Williston Tournament

The Glasgow Reds improved their overall record to 12-17 last week with a 5-1 run. The Reds defeated the Richland County Patriots 10-7 and 11-1 July 10 before traveling to Williston, N.D., July 12-14. Glasgow opened the Williston Tournament with a 3-2 win over the Surrey Blue Sox and a 7-2 loss against Rapid City, Friday. They defeated Bismarck 15-0 the following day and closed out the weekend with a 7-3 win over the Williston Oilers to take third place in the Tournament.

In their first game against Richland County, the Reds took a 2-1 lead in the first when Brody Hansen drove Mason Hunter and Khye Gamas home on a ground ball to left field. Glasgow built on their lead with three runs in the second. Wyatt Sugg scored on an error by the pitcher with Jack Kolstad at bat. Cade Hudyma then scored on a Kolstad fly ball and Kolstad scored on a Riley Smith line drive to left field. Hansen scored on a Sugg groundout in the third before Richland scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Neither team scored in the fourth. Hansen scored again in the fifth on a Sugg single fly ball. Richland County cut into the Reds' lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Glasgow scored again in the fifth when Hunter drove Gamas home on a double line drive The Patriots answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth before the Reds scored twice in the seventh to seal the victory. Sugg took advantage of an error by the third baseman to cross home plate and Hudyma scored on a Gamas ground ball.

Glasgow outhit Richland County 12-7 and held their errors to one while the Patriots committed three in the game.

Hansen went 3-for-4 at bat with two RBIs. Sugg had two hits and two RBIs, Kolstad added two hits and an RBI and Hudyma had two hits. Gamas, Smith and Hunter each added one hit and an RBI to the stats. Sugg, Hansen and Smith led in stolen bases with two a piece. Hudyma and Gamas had one each.

Gamas started the game on the mound for Glasgow. He allowed six earned runs and seven hits with one strikeout over four and two-thirds innings. Smith gave up one earned run with two strikeouts in two and a third innings in relief.

Glasgow gave up only one run in the second game after taking a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Gamas crossed home plate first when Hunter hit a sacrifice fly. Smith scored on a passed ball and Connor Hudyma scored on an Aiden Price pop fly.

The Reds built on their lead with runs in the third and fourth innings. Hansen scored on the throw when Price hit a fly out to center field and Sugg scored on a passed ball when Griffin Azure bunted in the third. In the fourth, Smith hit an inside the park home run, sending Kolstad home.

Glasgow ended the game in the sixth with four more runs. Hunter drove Smith home with a double line drive. Hansen drove Hunter and Connor Hudyma across the plate with a home run fly ball to left field.

The Reds outhit the Patriots 8-0 while committing a single error. Richland County had two errors.

Smith went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Hansen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Hunter was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Price added a hit and an RBI to the books while Azure had one hit. Connor Hudyma led in stolen bases with two followed by Price, Gamas, Sugg and Smith with one a piece.

Price went four innings after starting the game on the mound for Glasgow. He gave up one run and threw one strikeout. Hunter earned the win in two innings in relief, throwing two strikeouts.

Glasgow won in a walk off against the Surrey Blue Sox in Williston after both teams scored twice in the third. Smith doubled on a fly ball to send Kolstad home before scoring on a Hunter double. Hank Hopstad scored in the bottom of the seventh on a Hansen fly out to earn the win for the Reds.

Glasgow had five hits to Surrey's four and committed three errors to their opponents' single error. Gamas, Smith, Hunter, Conor Hudyma and Kolstad had hits for the Reds with Hansen, Smith and Hunter notching RBIs. Connor Hudyma led in stolen bases with three followed by Kolstad with two and Price and Gamas with one each.

Hansen started the game on the mound, lasting six innings. He gave up two runs and four hits while throwing five strikeouts. Hunter earned the win in relief, throwing one strikeout in one inning.

Glasgow scored first against Rapid City when Gamas crossed the plate on a Smith groundout but the Shooters answered with four runs in the top of the second. The Reds cut into the lead with a Cade Hudyma score on an error. Rapid City scored three more in the third and kept Glasgow off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game for the 7-2 Reds loss.

Glasgow was outhit 6-3 but held their errors to one while the Shooters committed three. Gamas, Hansen and John Grimes had hits for Glasgow with Smith notching the lone RBI. Gamas had two stolen bases and Grimes had one.

Connor Hudyma allowed five hits and seven runs, four earned, over three innings with two strikeouts. Sugg threw one strikeout and gave up one hit over three and a third innings.

Glagsow hit the diamond hard the following day against Bismarck in a 15-0 trouncing. Glasgow scored four times in the first, once in the second, and shut the game down in the third with 10 runs.

Hansen scored first on a wild pitch with Smith at the plate before Smith scored on an error by the shortstop. Hunter also scored on the error. Connor Hudyma scored on a passed ball, all in the first inning. In the second, Smith drove Hansen home with a ground ball.

The Reds started the scoring onslaught in the third when Sugg scored on a Connor Hudyma line drive. Gamas tripled to send Connor Hudyma and Kolstad across the plate before Gamas scored on a Hansen single. Hansen was driven home by a Smith triple to center field and Smith scored on a Cade Hudyma fly ball to center field. Hunter scored when Grimes was walked. Kolstad hit a fly ball to send Sugg and Cade Hudyma home and Grimes scored on a Gamas single to left field.

Glasgow collected nine hits to Bismarck's five while both teams had two errors.

Gamas, Hansen and Smith each had two hits with Gamas notching three RBIs, Smith two and Hansen one. Kolstad had one hit with two RBIs while Connor Hudyma and Cade Hudyma both had a hit and RBI. Grimes had one hit for the Reds. Sugg and Tayven Bietz both had two stolen bases while Kolstad, Smith and Hunter had one each.

Cade Hudyma allowed five hits with two strikeouts in his pitching start for Glasgow over three innings. Grimes threw one strikeout in his inning in relief.

The Reds closed out the weekend with their 7-3 win over the Williston Oilers. Glasgow started the scoring in the bottom of the second when Kolstad tripled to send Connor Hudyma and Price home. Kolstad then scored when Gamas singled to give the Reds a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third Smith stole home to increase Glasgow's lead to 4-0.

Williston answered with a run in the top of the fourth, but Glasgow built up their lead again in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs. Cade Hudyma sent Hunter and Connor Hudma on a triple to left field and then he scored on a passed ball with Sugg at bat. Williston sent two runners home in the seventh but Glasgow shut down the Oilers comeback attempt for the win.

The Reds held their errors to one while the Oilers had two and outhit Williston 6-2 in the game.

Gamas had two hits with an RBI while both Cade Hudyma and Kolstad notched a hit with two RBIs. Hunter and Sugg notched a hit each for the Reds. Smith and Gamas led in stolen bases with two each and Price had one.

Smith threw six strikeouts over three and two-thirds innings in his start for Glasgow on the mound. Hunter pitched two innings, allowing two runs and one hit while throwing two strikeouts. Price threw for one and a third innings, giving up one earned run and one hit while throwing one strikeout.

Glasgow hosts the Glendive Blue Devils today, July 17, with games at 5 and 7 p.m. The Laurel Dodgers will be in Glasgow Friday, July 19, for a pair of games at 1 and 3 p.m. The Reds close out the regular season Sunday, July 21, in Miles City with games at 2 and 4 p.m. against the Mavericks.
