Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Marlene Yoss

Marlene Emily (Sorensen) Yoss, 86, passed away quietly in her sleep at the Sidney Health Center, Sidney Mont., Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, at 1 p.m., at the Lutheran Church in Nashua, Mont. Inurnment will be at the Nashua Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Lutheran Church.

Marlene was born Feb. 2, 1938, the only daughter of Hans and Minnie Sorensen.  She was born and raised in Hinsdale Mont., alongside her four brothers, Edwin, Gordon, Melvin and Harry.

In 1955, she married Delbert Johnson, and in that marriage, she had six children, Rodney, Terry, Janelle, Gaylene, Darlene and Darell. They later divorced.

In 1969, she married Bill Yoss, they together had five children, Edie, Ray, Arlene, Kimberly and Raylene. Yes, that was a lot of children!

Marlene was a stay-at-home mom and later in life worked countless volunteer hours and 25 plus years for the Senior Companion Program. It was her passion to help others. During those years she made many lifelong friends and relationships. Those who knew her knew she had a heart of gold, she considered everyone family. If she had something and someone else needed it, it was theirs, no questions asked, and she expected nothing in return. She finally gave that up two years ago, it was time for someone else to take care of her.

Marlene loved watching her grandchildren play all sorts of sports from baseball and basketball to wrestling, always cheering them on. Having her great-grandchildren around and watching them grow in person and in pictures was the highlight of her life.

In 2022, she moved to Sidney and enjoyed being waited on hand and foot, as she truly deserved to be. Her hobbies included bingo days, painting and crafts at the Sidney Extended Care. And of course, her main hobby was Candy Crush or Candy Crunch as she called it, she played it on not one, not two, but three devices, always trying to beat those hard levels.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Bill Yoss; children Rodney and Janelle Johnson; parents Hans and Minnie Sorensen; and brothers Edwin, Gordon and Melvin Sorensen.

She is survived by her brother, Harry (Diedra) Sorensen, of Sidney; children Terry Johnson, of Hinsdale, Mont., Gaylene Karl, of Minnesota, Darlene (Linder) Hanks, of Wolf Point, Mont., Darell Johnson, of Braman, Okla., Edie Sereno, of Dallas, Texas, Ray (Jenni) Yoss, of Nashua, Arlene Sheehan, of Sidney, Kimberly Gonzales (Ty), of Glasgow, Mont., and Raylene Yoss, of Whitefish, Mont.; and sister-in-law Diana Sorensen, of Glasgow. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly.

Life threw a lot of curves at her, but she never gave up, always holding her head high to be strong for everyone else. She was the true definition of a beautiful angel. God knew she was tired. Although we weren't ready to give her up and let her go, He needed our angel by His side. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her.
